Half of the problem is thanks to FIG's stupid rules. The highest execution score wins the tie breaks in every apparatus, except vault. On vault, the highest scoring single vault decides who wins the tie break, but the problem is that the lowest scoring vault wins the tie break too. If the rules were solid, and if the execution score on both vaults decided the winner, Davtyan would have won -- as he should have.

Het is een druk sportjaar, deze had ik überhaupt niet op de radar! Ik denk dat de halve finale, laat staan directe plaatsing voor Parijs, wel erg veel gevraagd is. Ik hoop dat we niet te hard weggespeeld worden door Frankrijk. Ik denk dat Noorwegen, Zweden en Frankrijk in ieder geval sterkere teams zijn, maar wie weet is er met een goede kwartfinale loting nog iets mogelijk richting de halve finale. Ik vrees dat de Nederlandse vrouwenteams in het volleybal, handbal en voetbal toevallig alle drie in een fase zitten van doorselecteren en aansluiting proberen te houden bij de top, na geweldige resultaten in de periode 2015-2019.

Wat mij betreft ook een zeer goed resultaat deze EK. Naast de individuele fenomenen Bol en Schilder, is er in de breedte ook gewoon heel goed gepresteerd met top 5 prestaties in de estafettes en meerdere vierde plaatsen voor o.a. Visser, Koppelaar en Weerman. Tegenvallers waren er uiteraard ook, zoals het uitvallen van eigenlijk al onze kanshebbers op de meerkampen. Ik hoop dat de positieve flow waar de atletiek zich eigenlijk al sinds de opmars van Dafne Schippers in bevindt, zich ook door vertaalt in de breedte van de sport.
