  2. Yeah, these kind of close races are normally reserved for 5000 metres: 2016 European Athletics Championships – Men's 5000 metres - Wikipedia

  3. The athletics have been great.... finally feels like those European championships that used to be held every 4 years. When they moved to every 2 years they lost some importance, at least in my eyes, but this somehow recaptured that feeling of an important championships. I watched only rowing, gymnastics and athletics and a bit of cycling but it was enjoyable. Going to miss tuning into athletics every evening (been spoiled with Worlds, Commonwealths and Europeans on our screens here for the past few weeks).

  9. 5th place for Lavin, another great result for our athletes. We've had so many solid results at these championships, mixed in with a lot of positive and exciting results from our younger athletes. Very pleased with our European Championships campaign and lots of hope to take forward into the remainder of this Olympic cycle

  11. Very interesting squad of Polish 4x100 W relay Pia Skrzyszowska (starting 40 mins after 100h final) Anna Kiełbasińska (400m runner lately, medalist in 4x400 here but earlier a good 200m runner) Marika Popowicz- Drapała Ewa Swoboda (4th here in 100) that will be interesting

  13. Bartolini needs to substantially increase his difficulty score. Execution is important, but one cannot rely on execution alone, or else the risk of walking away without a medal is too big. That being said, I am a little worried about the fact that the judges are trying hard to make Jake Jarman happen at all costs. He's got big skills and high difficulty, but his execution is definitely not great and he's never penalized enough for his mistakes. This has been happening at every single event. It's baffling.

  14. So no gold medals for us, for the first time since 1982 (if Wikipedia is right), everything is going really well just 2 years before Paris 2024, yep

  30. There was an interview with Grażyna Rabsztyn lately and she said there was an idea to raise the women's hurdles in the 80s already but it proved unpopular and was quickly abandoned. She said she wanted the higher hurdles for women and the ideal height would be 91 cm (they are 84 cm now). She also run some races at the men's hurdles (106 cm). She also said at 1.75 m she was too tall for the event herself (which didn't stop her from setting WR though which is still Polish NR).

  34. Fun fact: We have won gold in the women's javelin three times. Anna Verouli won gold in 1982, then Manjani in 2002 and Tzengko in 2022 I have a feeling we won't have to wait 20 years for another women's javelin gold considering Tzengko's age and ability

  35. If you want to feel a bit old, think that when Greece last won gold in women's javelin at a european championships, it was in 2002 in the same stadium and Jengo was one month unborn back then. And if you want to feel a bit older, think that when Spotakova made her olympic debut in 2004, Vilagos was seven months old. Tzengo was impressive, she started with a relatively good first throw which took all the pressure off and helped her throw a personal best in her next throw. This was a great day for us with two gold medals. I know our other two golds in these championships on the same day as well, as @Makedonas said, but I think those were way more expected than the one our athletes won today. Vilagos was impressive too. Remember she had two foul throws in qualifying before having a third one just good enough to put her in the final. Today she didn't start well, but gradually climbed up to third place and then despite Spotakova bumped her out of the podium spots and Vilagos had to throw immediately afterwards, she managed to improve and won silver. As for Spotakova, just appreciation and respect for her effort and medal at 41 years old, a true legend in this sport not just in javelin. To conclude all three medalists today have a from me.

  36. Very true, although last year she was injured after US Open and did not play for a few months so she won't be defending points this year after the US Open at least.

  37. Very important title for her, because she will soon have to defend second round (main draw) points from US open and most likely she won't play at all. At the moment she is fourth or fifth alternative in qualifying and there are less than 48 hours until the start of the tournament.

  42. Personally, I don´t mind Sports Climbing. Skateboarding is a bit so-so and Golf needn't be included, because they don't really take it all that seriously. However, I can understand why they cut the canoe sprint programme somewhat. Comparing to swimming, everything feels unfair, however. I can imagine why some of these changes are happening, but they are always forgetting part of what is important in actually making these changes.

  44. Women's European championships road race was today, Elisa Balsamo got surprisingly close to Lorena Wiebes Don't think anyone has been within 3 bike lengths of Wiebes in a sprint this year, so that's quite a performance, but it wasn't enough to beat her
