  3. Isaquias medal today was his first silver in World Championships, having already won 7 gold and 6 bronze medals. He now has 14 World medals, losing only to Cielo (19), Scheidt (17), Grael (16) and Cunha (15) as our biggest medalists ever. I think Cunha and Isaquias still have plenty of time to improve this ranking.

New Zealand, quite sadly, got eliminated on the post-ride inspection. Pretty good result overall for Japan, as they defeat three European teams. Much better performance than last year on the home soil in Tokyo. Looking at the results, the United States did drop the ball quite a bit, but others did too. Spain was too inconsistent after a great start from Sanchez. Max-Theurer's ride was very tense for Austria. And finally, Finland was less than 10% behind the US. Had Ruoste not withdrawn, then there would have been legitimate chance for Finland to steal that final quota.

  7. In the end it was a decent Championships for us. One gold and one silver, more or less what we expected. Also two fourth place finishes (are we the new Canada? ). Our highlights (top 8 finishers) : Korakidis winning gold in the men's hammer with a WL was great, although it's too bad Polychroniou finished 4th. I really wanted both on the podium. If not for the Finnish guy, all three medalists would've had the same national anthem Filippidou silver in the women's discus with a SB was nice after her struggles this year. Hopefully next year she can get a new PB again because her progress stalled and Paris is looking unlikely for her at this point. Pavlidis 4th in the men's discus after breaking the U20NR twice, wow! I thought Bouzakis was our contender in that event but he didn't even make the final. Emmanouilidou 5th in the women's 200. I think if the conditions were better she would've had another U20NR. Her finishing 11th in the 100 was also good. I can't remember the last time we had a female sprinter this promising, probably not since Thanou. It's too bad there was no European U20 this year, she would've won gold in the 200! Kassou 8th in 3000 and 9th in 5000, also really good as we don't normally do well in these distance events. If we had a European U20 this year, she would've won medals. Rapti 8th in the women's triple jump is decent, but her progress seems to have stalled the last two years as she's barely improved her PB. She's still only 18, but she had 12.87 in 2020, 12.96 in 2021, and 13.11 in 2022. She needs a big improvement next year, something like 13.50.

  8. The victory of the hosts brought the team event of dressage at the FEI Wrold Championship in Herning to a conclusion. Denmark shared the podium with Great Britain and Germany. Alltogether seven teams secured a place for the Paris 2024 Olympics. The Grand Prix have been held for two days with two athletes achieving a result above 80% - Cathrine Laudrup-Dufour on Vamos Amigos (81,864%) and Charlotte Fry on Glamourdale (80,838%). They were the leaders of the teams battling for the gold. The success was on the hosts' side with Nanna Merrald Rasmussen on Blue Hors Zack (76,724%) and Carina Cassøe Krüth on Heiline's Danciera (76,863%) beating the Brits, where Fry was joined by Charlotte Dujardin on Imhotep (77,407%) and Gareth Hughes on Classic Briolinca (75,978%). The podium was completed by the title defending Germans with Ingrid Klimke on Franzikus having their result dropped as the worst in the team (75,683%) the result of 230,791% was achieved by Isabell Werth on DSP Quantaz (77,127%), Bejamin Werndl on Famoso OLD (77,003%) and Frederic Wandres on Duke of Britain FRH (76,661%). Beside the medallists, the three next teams also secured a place in the Paris 2024 Olympic team event (as well as team members starting in the individual competition). These are Sweden, Netherlands (including Dinja van Liere on Hermes - third pair of the Grand Prix with 78,835%) and USA. Another quota went to team of Australia, placed eighth, being the best from the Group G of South East Asia and Oceania with Japan in 15th and New Zealand eliminated as Gaylene Lennard's Jax Johnson haven't passed the inspection and the team had no reserve of their three-pair team. The next medal events are to be held on Monday with dressage Grand Prix Special (individual only) and the non-Olympic vaulting Squad and Individual medals to be given. The next Olympic quotas will be distributed during the jumping team final on Friday the 12th. Author: Wojciech Nowakowski, Totallympics Photo: © FEI/Leanjo de Koster

  10. Top of the medal table: Surprisingly GB is in 17th place with only 1G 2B. I assume some of their eligible athletes might have preferred the Commonwealth Games? In total 34 nations won a medal. Jamaica is looking ready to continue dominating women's sprinting. Strong showing by South Africa in 5th place, winning the 400m M and shot put W. For the Dutch it's our best result yet in an U20 WC, improving on 1G 1S 1B in both 1992 and 2000.

  11. A1 CEV Nations Cup 2022 Women: 1. Switzerland 2. Germany 3. Latvia Men: 1. Norway 2. Italy 3. Netherlands This nations cup is another new tournament format, but most nations did send their strongest teams. Although on the Dutch womens team Stam/Schoon chose to play national tournaments at home instead. With them present our womens team should've been a medal contender as well.

  12. Long interview with Lasitskene on her(lack of) messages with ukrainian athletes, why she won't change flags, the letter to Bach and her fight against the federation and sports minister. It's a good read. I think she has a point on the hipocrisy of the ban when tennis players (Wimbledon aside) are playing like nothing happened. But I guess nothing will change in the near future. https://t.co/9ZG4XjtbZ4

  19. Much to the delight of the BBC announcers, Canada loses. Been said before, I don't know what they have against Canada. It makes it that much harder to swallow the loss. Wanted them to eat their words.

  28. Athletics, men's Discus Throw...this is easy... Al Oerter is unmatched (and unmatchable, I guess). Swimming, women's 800m Freestyle...Janet Evans was a great swimmer, but when you have to be compared with Katie Ledecky, you simply have no chance... Katie Ledecky is my pick, of course. Trampoline...vade retro, Satan! I refuse to consider that a sport, get it back to Circus, where it owns... I pass on these events, obviously. Diving, women's 3m Springboard...another easy choice... Fu Minxia is the best diver of all times, so she's my obvious pick...

  31. good job from Dinja van Liere for the Dutch team. Even with the two best riders from the Netherlands (Gal en Minderhout) not taking part, should be possible to get a place at the top 6. Germany, UK and Denmark will go for the medals. The dutch team have 2 riders in action today: Emmelie Scholtens will score between the 72% and 73% as she did in Rotterdam a few weeks ago. And Marieke van der Putten wil score between 73% and 74% as she did in Ermelo a few weeks ago.

  32. Canada Day 9 Review Day 9 saw Canada win 17 medals (3 gold, 5 silver, 9 bronze). Overall, Canada had a pretty good day. We have now surpassed our medal total from 2018 so that's a huge positive. Here's how we did for each sport. Athletics We won three medals thanks to our hammer throw team, led by Camryn Rogers winning gold in the women's event. As for the other events, we drew just short in the men's and women's 200m and men's 3000m steeplechase. I was hoping for a bit more, but in the end you have to remember that we are missing a lot of key athletes. Badminton Michelle Li won her quarterfinal match against Northern Ireland and will face India in the semis. Unfortunately, our women's doubles team lost out to the Australian pair. Beach Volleyball Both teams won their semifinal match with the men defeating England and the women winning against New Zealand. The teams now have a double header against Australia to determine the gold medal. Boxing 3/4 boxers lost today, giving us three bronze medals. Our lone victor was Tammara Thibeault in the women's middleweight. She faces off against Mozambique's Rady Gramane in the final. Diving Not the greatest day for us. We only won a single bronze medal in the women's 3m synchronized springboard. A poor final dive in the women's 10m synchronized platform cost us a medal. Field Hockey Our men's team lost the seventh place match against Pakistan and finished 8th. While I acknowledge that our men's team is in rebuilding mode, I had hope that they would perform a bit better. Gymnastics The apparatus finals were today and Canada came away with four medals, two silvers and two bronze from the combined performances of Carmel Kallemaa (hoop, clubs, ribbon) and Suzanna Shahbazian (ball). This concludes gymnastics where Canada finished with 13 medals, the same as we did in 2018. Squash Our men's doubles team lost their quarterfinal match against England. The match was always going to be tough to win, but we did our best. All of our teams have been eliminated. Table Tennis Our final team has been eliminated. Our women's doubles team lost in the round of 16. Canada will not medal in table tennis, though to be fair it was always going to be difficult to do so. Wrestling Following up the performance from yesterday, all six of our wrestlers won a medal meaning Canada went 12/12 in wrestling. We won 2 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze.

I just noticed this some how. Anyways, to answer your question, I only remember briefly speaking with a journalist from (on the way to the softball final). Otherwise, I never met or saw any other Asian/SEA press there. There were a few non-local journalists from Europe and the Americas. I was quite friendly with some of them, as many of us had a similar focus on things within the Olympics beat.

  34. That is an apples to oranges comparison. In fact every individual all around Commonwealth champion won 2 or more apparatus medals... so this is a complete anomaly

  37. c'mon! yesterday's event in Cali was heavily conditioned by the rain and especially by the 90-min stoppage after 2m10cm... when they restarted the competition, there was just 1 jump out of 18 clearing the next hight (the game winner by the Jamaican guy) because of the horrific conditions... starting the competition, there were a few guys with PB well beyond 2.20, more than one going beyond 2.25 already... we can say that yesterday's race doesn't reflect at all the technical value of the entire age class... that said, we all know that Holm is very good and coming...but you just can't compare events held in such different places, environmental conditions and psychological pressure...

  38. I respect her for trying to regain her level and becoming fit again, but by now you'd think her body has given enough hints that it doesn't want to do the whole sprinting business anymore.
