Biathlon IBU World Cup 2021 - 2022

Honestly, I'm in shock. Being a Lithuanian biathlon fan, I always kept thinking if we're ever going to see anything better than Diana Rasimovičiūtė. Now, nearly eleven years later, Lithuania is back in the top 10 and it is the highest placement for any Lithuanian biathlete since our independence. What is even more amazing is that TODAY, January 13th we are celebrating the 31st year of our independence after fourteen brave civilians were crushed underneath Soviet tanks for peacefully defending our TV Tower. What a day to be alive, I will always be thankful for what Vytautas Strolia did today for biathlon and Lithuania, hopefully, just hopefully he gets to climb onto a podium before he decides to retire. But for today, I'm happy to call him the best biathlete that Lithuania has ever produced in modern biathlon.6 points -

Men's Aerials Quotas (before reallocation): 4 quotas: Belarus China ROC 3 quotas: Canada Switzerland Ukraine United States 1 quota: Kazakhstan Women's Aerials Quotas (before reallocation): 4 quotas: Canada United States 3 quotas: Australia China ROC 2 quotas: Belarus Kazakhstan Ukraine 1 quota: Germany Switzerland Looks like missing last year cost China getting all 4 quotas. Mixed Team Aerials Event (before reallocation): Belarus Canada China Kazakhstan ROC Switzerland Ukraine United States Reserves: Men:, , , , Women: , , , , A whopping 10 nations qualifying athletes here . Though I do expect Canada to at least reject one quota for each gender which means that Great Britain and Japan would get quotas though I remember that Great Britain doesn't accept reallocations so maybe not.3 points -

@dcro @prso1000 Crnković is in the start-list for tomorrow's race ! According to my calculations he needs 69.1 points, which is fairly manageable. Last week this was achieved by finishing 1'30 and 1'41 behind the winner.2 points -
He is basically trying to profit from COVID. How very commendable. The best 7 results count for qualification, and COVID or no COVID, he already has 13 (!!) results this year. Oh, and he also has the result from the test event where he placed 29th (last). Goes in line with his prior self-promoting ways.2 points

will make their debuts. Qualification system is more than generous. I guess FIS went for one last hurrah before men's Nordic combined faces severe quota cuts. Latvian guy literally qualified thanks to finishing last three times at COC in Colorado in December 2020. He scored some COC points because there were less than 30 entries, I guess due to the pandemic etc. It's quite an astonishing achievement, especially since NC has no other requirements except for minimum age. https://www.fis-ski.com/DB/general/results.html?sectorcode=NK&competitorid=200234&raceid=2615 https://www.fis-ski.com/DB/general/results.html?sectorcode=NK&competitorid=200234&raceid=2617 https://www.fis-ski.com/DB/general/results.html?sectorcode=NK&competitorid=200234&raceid=26191 point

...and that's highly unlikely given the recent performance of the Japanese men. So I think SVK can start to prepare their relay team for Beijing. ;-)1 point -
Enough to take over ROU for now, but not enough to take over KAZ. Now it depends on Wright 🤷🏻♂️ i think 6-7 seconds missing 😂1 point

Cross-Country Skiing FIS World Cup 2021 - 2022

In North America it’s like cycling - ie lots of people do it, but don’t necessarily follow it as a professional sport. In Italy, Germany, France it’s a regional sport, very strong in some areas, unknown in most. In other countries, it’s popular when a fellow countryman is winning, less so when they’re not.1 point -

What the IOC should be doing is having floating tripartite invitations for countries who's best athletes aren't Alpine or cross country skiers. I'd rather see someone like Frimpong compete than some random skier who went to some dodgy FIS race.1 point -

I am finding this last minute plea by Frimpong a little ridiculous. He seems to be saying that positive covid test has made it impossible to qualify, not crappy uncompetitive results. Maybe I am wrong, but I was glad they stopped the continental qualifiers.1 point -

Unfortunately yes.... he suffered an injury in November, and after a surgical operation necessary to synthesize the fracture of the fifth metatarsal of the left foot, could be back in late February. For the defence of AX Armani it was a bad time after his injury, four lost in-a-row in EuL.1 point -
kind of interesting that commentator realized what just happened. I mean if I was the commentator I would be confused at least for few seconds to see what that whistle was about. but he knew it instantly and saying something like "oh my dear, oh my dear" in a very funny tune looks like something like that happened in Africa before. he wasn't really surprised.1 point

195 point something for Ponya in Lebanon. She will be going to the Olympics (unless Hungary raised their standards considerably following the Swaney fiasco). I like how Totallympics is probably the only place where people print-screen Instagram stories of small-time athletes.1 point -
Totallympics International Song Contest Discussion

TISC Annual 2022 - Hosting Rights We are open for bids!!! I am pleased to announce that the hosting rights for the 18th edition of the Totallympics International Song Contest (TISC Annual 2022) is now open for bidding. 2021 TISC Annual winners, Canada, and runners-up Sweden have both declined their right to host the upcoming edition. As the 3rd-placed nation, Ireland was next in line to receive the hosting rights. Official confirmation from the Irish delegation states that they prefer to open up the bidding to the wider public, so that all those interested can have their chance to stage the contest. However, the Irish delegation also committed to step in to fill the position if in fact there are no bids forthcoming (which we very much hope will not be the case ). All interested parties who would like to host the upcoming edition of TISC are hereby invited to state their interest on this thread by no later than Monday, 24th January. If more than one bid is received, a draw to decide the host will be conducted as per usual TISC rules. Let the bidding commence!! Bid Candidates: Hungary1 point -
Couple ones. In aerials, the skier is launched straight into the air and travels a very short distance horizontally. In big air the skier is launched forward moreso than upwards. Aerials is a lot like diving - every jump has a degree of difficulty based on the number of flips and spins. Every jump is judged based on form in the air and landing, and that is multiplied by the degree of difficulty to get a final score. Big air is scored more subjectively, with a 0-100 scale. There are no set degree of difficulty. Aerials tricks must be pencilled (i.e. the body of the aerialist should remain as straight as possible) to achieve high form scores. In big air pencilling leads to massive deductions. In big air grabbing the skis during tricks is one of the most important way to increase your score. Grabs are not permitted in aerials. In big air you tan takeoff forwards or backwards (switch). In aerials you can only takeoff forwards. In big air the judges take into consideration whether you did a trick in your natural or unnatural spin direction. This isn’t taken into account in aerials. Even though on the surface big air and aerials look very similar there is zero overlap between the competitors. The techniques used in both are quite different.1 point

Mama Africa ! Such things happen always and only in Africa because of the corruption inside CAF the refereeing quality is bad... Tunisian players were already showering and preparing to leave, while the captain was writing the technical reserve... there was no sign play was gonna be resumed Apparently the referee had a sunstroke he seemed not OK at all even when he was going towards the VAR he was running in the wrong way 😂😂 even his decisions were wrong At the 80th min he already showed to the 4th assistant🖐 5 min of extratime. I bet in his clockwatch he had 90 min i guess 😂😂😂 that s why 5 min later he blew the whistle.. If you count the VAR stops, the cooling breaks, the 9 substitutions, at least there were 7 to 10 minutes to add as extratime. Hopefully there is VAR in this edition otherwise we would have seen more robberies ...0 points
