  11. Petter Northug, meanwhile, is sniffing against the FIS and believes that the FIS is destroying the Tour de Ski with a 3-minute penalty, as they are shooting down a Tour candidate just because someone brings her down in conditions that are not easy. In his opinion a Ranked at Last would have been enough, because she already loses enough time.

  12. Yeah, St Ulrich ain't looking fantastic neither. It does seem to be getting a bit colder in a few days and maybe some snow falling in the second half of the week can save the races... At least for now cancelled races would not at all be a disadvantage for Bruna, especially if the cancelled races are those where Mika would basically have her only chances of getting her sprint average under 300 points And there is a bit of a backup for Ravna Gora for them: Bad Mitterndorf on 15 January, a 5k classic. No sprint.

  13. Sunny 13 degrees in Ravna Gora today. There is no snow on the ground. However, some snow is currently being forecast for Thu/Fri/Sat.

  14. Mika had an excellent sprint result in Finnish Imatra today, 339 FIS points. That improves her points position on the national ranking, although it doesn't help her get her sprint average under 300 and so, as of now, she is still out of the fight. She's got sprints in Minsk, Zlatibor and Ravna Gora (and possibly St Ulrich between Minsk and Zlatibor) to fix that or else it's done as far as her chances go. Zlatibor and Ravna Gora will definitely be her biggest chances. Her result of today slightly changes the ranking, which now looks like this: Tomorrow is a 5k classic, where I suspect she'll replace that 290 distance result with a 220 or so. Which, again, only matters if she manages to get her sprint average under 300 in the next two weeks.

  17. 3 minutes for Karlsson, I think she will quit the Tour. But bad for Diggins: Neprayeva, Sorina and Niskanen could take the lead now.

  18. (Preliminary) Team Men: Peder Kongshaug Håvard Holmefjord Lorentzen Bjørn Magnussen Sverre Lunde Pedersen Kristian Gamme Ulekleiv Allan Dahl Johansson Hallgeir Engebråten Women: Marit Fjellanger Bøhm Sofie Karoline Haugen Ragne Wiklund Still 5 (!) quota places on the women's side which have not been used yet. Norway has won 2 quota on the women's 500m, but this list does not include any 500m skaters. I'm not sure if they'll use the quota as both Samsonsen and Ripsrud only barely qualified based on their season's best time and probably won't make top 20 in Beijing, whereas on the men's side all skaters selected have top 10 potential. Bøhm competed during the World Cups but did not even get close to a quota, so she's probably selected for the team pursuit. Not sure if she'll compete in an individual distance. 19. Team Men: 500m: Tatsuya Shinhama, Wataru Morishige, Yuma Murakami 1.000m: Tatsuya Shinmaha, Wataru Morishige, Ryota Kojima 1.500m: Seitaro Ichinohe, Takura Oda, Ryota Kojima* 5.000m: Seitaro Ichinohe** 10.000m: Ryosuke Tsuchiya Mass Start: Seitaro Ichinohe (Ryosuke Tsuchiya is a reserve) * got disqualified during the trials, but made it over Taro Kondo as Japan only has 7 quota on the men's side. ** Japan has two quota on the men's 5.000m. Unsure who will be the second skater or if they're going to give back the quota Yamato Matsui is the #7 in the World Cup standings over 500m, but he misses out, because Japan has selected #2 (Morishige), #3 (Shinhama) and #4 (Murakami) based on the results in the Japanese trials. The best Japanese skater in the 1.000m World Cup standings (#8), Masaya Yamada, finished in 5th place, and therefore misses out on a spot in team Japan. Most notable skaters missing out include Taro Kondo, Takuya Morimoto, Shane Williamson and Masahito Obayashi. Women: 500m: Nao Kodaira*, Miho Takagi, Arisa Go 1.000m: Nao Kodaira, Miho Takagi 1.500m: Miho Tagaki, Nana Takagi, Ayano Sato** 3.000m: Miho Takagi, Ayano Sato 5.000m: Misaki Oshigiri, Momoka Horikawa*** Mass Start: Nana Takagi, Rin Kosaka Team Pursuit: Miho Takagi, Ayano Sato, Nana Takagi, Misaki Oshigiri * did not compete in the 500m at the trials, was probably pre-qualified ** Nao Kodaira finished in third place in the trials, 0.62 in front of Sato, but Sato got selected. *** 18-year old, still a junior this season and next season All the top athletes are there, with Horikawa being the biggest "surprise". Miho Takagi skates 5 distances. She also won Japan a quota on the 5.000m, but decided not to enter the trials on this distance. 22. "Last pair of the day. Ten kilometers. You're the only one left who can qualify for the Olympics. Half the field has withdrawn and the stadium has emptied. You've got to go faster than 13:06.71 (national federation criteria). The fastest time ever posted by a Japanese skater in Japan is 13:14 minutes. Ryosuke Tsuchiya: 13:06.17!" Just, wow Phenomenal ride.

  25. Someone inside IIHF apparently either smoke too much weird things or just have some fetish to come always and always with plane stupid ideas. Seriously, sometime I do not know what is wrong with some people in this world lately According to this https://www.tvasports.ca/2021/12/29/le-mondial-junior--aux-olympiques?fbclid=IwAR1efNVb_Sq1IwvPHp4ZFrF-NZhl3llBlEqtqQq1xGbVT6-R7E8syOVfT40 there some IIHF officials discussing about replacing the M Hockey tournament in Beijing by the Juniors tournament (as compensation for the kids for the U20 Worlds cancellation) ... well, CAN & USA would be obviously absolutely all for this I assume, CHN well...not really I guess lol Some people ideas and inventions... I swear

  26. Giorgia Villa has structural bone damage in her back and therefore in the future she's going to focus only on Balance Beam and Uneven Bars, meanwhile she's going to stop working on new excercises on the Floor and Vault, which means that she won't be a threat in the All Around competitions anymore... here's an article about that (unfortunately it's in Italian only)... https://www.oasport.it/2021/12/giorgia-villa-ho-un-problema-osseo-alla-schiena-mi-dedico-a-parallele-e-trave-posso-fare-ginnastica-ad-alto-livello/?refresh_ce

  27. Larisa Iordache after a new operation has retired from gymnastics. She made this decision a couple of weeks ago and will transition to working as an assistant coach alongside her former coaches. She was a fighter and maybe she never won an olympic title but definetly she was one of the best gymnast in the world. I really hope she will come back for Paris 2024 and she will fight for olympic gold.
