  2. See, if they’d held it in Nova Zagora everything would be fine, but in Stara they’re still relying on monks writing things down by hand. Meanwhile, for the First League nothing works at all.

  4. Day 1 Canada qualifiers (not official, but hit the A standard in the final). "Selection committee" will make the ultimate call due to Covid 19. Women's 100m butterfly: Maggie McNeil (56.19) and Katerine Savard (57.86) Men's 100m butterfly: Joshua Liendo (51.72), had 51.40 in prelims. Women's 100m backstroke: Kylie Masse (57.70, new NR) and Taylor Ruck (59.60) Men's 100m backstroke: Markus Thormeyer (53.40), Cole Pratt (53.54) Women's 400m freestyle: Surprisingly no one hit the A standard. I'd expect them to still name two people here. Men's 400m freestyle: No one with the standard.

  5. This seems to be a good opportunity for me to make a "Hungarian medal chances per day" post, I wanted to do this anyway at some point. I am only mentioning events where a medal wouldn't be surprising (in my opinion). Probably my most "controversial" decision is that I am leaving women's 200m IM off, I think it would be surprising if Hosszú wins a medal in that event. Events with our best chances are in bold. July 24 - Day 1 (1) Fencing, men's individual sabre, Áron Szilágyi / András Szatmári July 25 - Day 2 (3) Swimming, women's 400m IM, Katinka Hosszú Fencing, men's individual epée, Gergely Siklósi Shooting, men's 10m air rifle, István Péni July 26 - Day 3 (1) Fencing, women's individual sabre, Anna Márton / Liza Pusztai July 27 - Day 4 (0) July 28 - Day 5 (3) Swimming, men's 200m butterfly, Kristóf Milák / Tamás Kenderesi Fencing, men's team sabre, Hungary Judo, men's 90kg, Krisztián Tóth July 29 - Day 6 (1) Swimming, women's 200m butterfly, Boglárka Kapás July 30 - Day 7 (0) July 31 - Day 8 (2) Swimming, men's 100m butterfly, Kristóf Milák Fencing, women's team sabre, Hungary August 1 - Day 9 (0) August 2 - Day 10 (1) Shooting, men's 50m rifle 3 positions, István Péni August 3 - Day 11 (5) Sailing, men's finn, Zsombor Berecz Canoe Sprint, men's K1 1000m, Bálint Kopasz / Ádám Varga Canoe Sprint, women's K1 200m, Dóra Lucz Canoe Sprint, women's K2 500m, two Hungarian boats Wrestling, men's Greco-Roman 77kg, Tamás Lőrincz August 4 - Day 12 (3) Wrestling, men's Greco-Roman 67kg, Bálint Kopasz Wrestling, men's Greco-Roman 87kg, Viktor Lőrincz Swimming, women's 10km, Anna Olasz August 5 - Day 13 (4) Athletics, women's heptathlon, Xénia Krizsán Canoe Sprint, men's K1 200m, Sándor Tótka Canoe Sprint, women's K1 500m, Danuta Kozák / Tamara Csipes Swimming, men's 10km, Kristóf Rasovszky August 6 - Day 14 (1) Modern Pentathlon, women's, Michelle Gulyás August 7 - Day 15 (5) Water Polo, women's, Hungary Modern Pentathlon, men's, Ádám Marosi Canoe Sprint, women's C2 500m, Hungary Canoe Sprint, women's K4 500m, Hungary Wrestling, men's freestyle 65kg, Iszmail Muszukajev August 8 - Day 16 (1) Water Polo, men's, Hungary

  11. I'm really looking forward to this and there are so many opportunities for banter with such good company as @dcro for Croatia, @Agger and @Wumo for Denmark, @hckošice for Slovakia, @Vektor for Hungary, @justony for Slovenia, @stefanbg for Bulgaria. It's a shame that @OlympicIRL is stuck in his fancy 1st league

  12. It's always interesting to look at the Olympic schedule and forecast when your nation's big medal chances will be. Will they be early in the program, in the final days, or will they be spread out over the course of the 16 days of medal winning action (the dream scenario )? Here is the link to the day-to-day schedule to help with your forecast: https://totallympics.com/qualification-tracker/tokyo2020/tokyo-2020-schedule_by_day/ When is the first realistic medal chance of the Games for your nation? When do you think your nation will get their first medal and in which event? Is there a bumper day for your nation where you expect more than one or a few medals to come? If so, what day? Is there a day when you expect to have not so much competitors from your nation competing or no chances for medals?

  22. SLOVAK ROAD TO TOKYO 2020 - SLOVENSKÁ CESTA DO TOKIA 2020 30th and 31st Qualified Athletes Filip POLÁŠEK + TBD - TENNIS (M DOUBLES) Filip Polášek si zaistil účasť na olympiáde Teraz si musí vybrať slovenského spoluhráča do štvorhry Slovensko bude mať zastúpenie v mužskej tenisovej štvorhre na olympijských hrách v Tokiu. Medzinárodná tenisová federácia (ITF) o tom informovala Slovenský olympijský a športový výbor (SOŠV) a Slovenský tenisový zväz (STZ). Záväznú nomináciu celej výpravy musí športové oddelenie SOŠV nahlásiť do Tokia do 5. júla.

  27. Are we sure that Badosa and Tig will not play? I think they are relaxing the Fed Cup restrictions for players like them who rose up a lot in the last year or two and didn't have many chances to play Fed Cup. It's completely fair too. Do you really think Spain was going to choose Badosa in 2017, 2018, or 2019 for Fed Cup when they had other better players? Same with Romania and Tig. Karatsev for example was originally listed as not eligible (due to the same reasons) on Wikipedia until a Russian source confirmed that he will play. So, I think we should know that there are some mistakes on Wikipedia regarding player eligibility. Gauff is another example of someone who is listed as eligible even though she technically doesn't meet the requirements. So I think they will also make these exceptions for players like Badosa and Tig (Sebastian Korda also for example). Now others like Hercog and Martic are people they should not make exceptions for. Also sorry if I am not doing a good job trying to explain this. English is not my first language.

  28. De Boer yesterday: "It's possible we'll play roughly the same, but with one outside player, a little like Italy does." Also talking about possibly giving a few players some rest, but no decisions yet. Personally I wouldn't expect a whole lot of change, because as he said: "We're already group winner, but we also want to go into the knockout phase with a good feeling." As for Belgium, Thorgan Hazard has a knee injury and will at least miss Finland. Eden Hazard, Witsel, De Bruyne and Vermaelen are all supposed to start the match against Finland, same for Lukaku. Those are names he mentioned, at least

  29. When is the first realistic medal chance of the Games for your nation? When do you think your nation will get their first medal and in which event? Day 2, when the women's cycling road race take place. But as always, nothing is sure, definitely not the road races. Still I expect the first medal here for Netherlands (with Vos, Van der Breggen, Vollering or Van Vleuten). Is there a bumper day for your nation where you expect more than one or a few medals to come? If so, what day? Day 5 with the women's time trial (although I expect gold for Chloe Dygert), some rowing finals (M2x, W4-) and the biggest chance on a medal at the judo tournament (women's -70, men's -90) Is there a day when you expect to have not so much competitors from your nation competing or no chances for medals? Not a particular day, but at the end of the competition, most of the Dutch teams will be eliminated (e.g. handball, football, waterpolo).

  45. I wasn't trying to suggest that all of those players were reluctant to play in Tokyo just that the appeal of Rio and Tokyo has been a little less for some players than Beijing and London. Add the health issues surrounding the Games in 2016 and 2021 together with the points issue and you have some explanation for the drop off in player participation.

  46. Yes, if two quotas were rejected on the women’s side those would be allocated to Slovenia and Switzerland. Yes, in the event that 17 quotas are available for reallocation, Brazil would be eligible for a third quota. The FIS is one of the few IFs that shows real-time data in terms of nations accepting and rejecting quotas. If a nation rejects quotas, there will be a yellow or red dot that appears next to their revised allocation. I believe there might also be a green dot for countries accept the original allocation of quotas. This paragraph is contingent on the current version of the FIS operating in a similar way to past versions.

  48. I experienced an interesting thing related to this when i was visiting Armenia: groups of women who would come from Iran to "experience freedom", dance and drink and have fun without issues. We met an armenian girl who was tour guide there, and she sometimes got shocks when she would pick up iranian girls at the border, full dressed and covered with burkas, leave them at hotel, and then when she returned to the hotel to pick them for the tour she would never recognized them because they would be dressed without any religious clothes....
