  5. Caroline Chew 69.674% Personal best, national record, and waaaay above the required 66%. That's how it's done. First ever YOG oath presenter becomes a full Olympian. India can still take up the first reserve spot if either Vora or Agarwalla deliver.

  7. Well this was a really fun experience! I think my biggest surprise was seeing the anthems being played with the lyrics on the tv, karaoke style. also they play the official music of the playing countries, but they did not played the Dutch one, I guess they don’t have one (although I was really hopping they would play “Wij zijn oranje” by andres hazes)

  8. Yes, if two quotas were rejected on the women’s side those would be allocated to Slovenia and Switzerland. Yes, in the event that 17 quotas are available for reallocation, Brazil would be eligible for a third quota. The FIS is one of the few IFs that shows real-time data in terms of nations accepting and rejecting quotas. If a nation rejects quotas, there will be a yellow or red dot that appears next to their revised allocation. I believe there might also be a green dot for countries accept the original allocation of quotas. This paragraph is contingent on the current version of the FIS operating in a similar way to past versions.

  9. I was 10 and I had already heard of nandrolone thanks to Edgar Davids I did come across an article from 2001, headlined 'Nobody is so stupid as to take nandrolone on purpose' https://www.trouw.nl/nieuws/niemand-is-zo-stom-om-bewust-nandrolon-te-nemen~bc0413a9

  10. Yes, Polášek has been updated today. As I wrote there our NOC and Tennis federation received today the official invitation and information in which was written that he has to choose a partner for the Doubles event. (Any SVK player in the top 300 of M Singles or Doubles ranking from 14th June) But still not official confirmation from him personally if he will actually accept it and play in Tokyo

  11. I don’t think many nations who went to the World Cup events were playing games. There has been precious few opportunities to row competitively in recent times and I’d say most of the instances of lack of form or unexpected results would be down to nations / athletes being at different stages of their preparation and training and with Covid no doubt having obvious impacts on preparation.

  12. This is an absolute howler from USATF, rightly condemned, but Russiagate this isn't - it's the classic US terror of a court case - apparently Houlihan turned up with an order from a low divisional court which didn't understand the way sports admin works internationally. In attempting to bypass and frustrate CAS with a domestic court order, Houlihan is actually committing another offence. But I suspect she's past caring.

  14. Tian Tao and Deng Wei are both injured. So it's not surprising that they are not selected. Tian Tao underperformed in the Asian Championships which also served as national trial and Deng Wei was absent.

  15. There hasn't been a worlds since 2019. GB haven't faced Germany at a Worlds or Europeans since then, and GBR are the reigning European champions which GER skipped, just as GBR skipped in 2020. The only time they've duelled at all recently was at the World Cup, where GBR won. There's an argument Germany is the stronger team, and certainly they may win - but in no sane universe are they a sure thing on paper, it simply isn't true.

  20. Looks that at the end we will not miss participation in this sport for the first time in our history. Filip Polášek received today the invitation thanks his 9th rank in the M Doubles ranking and have now to choose a partner for the Tokyo M Doubles competition. (very likely Igor Zelenay) well it is still pending they will accept the quota and want to play in Tokyo.. However there a small hope, since Polášek many times in the past presented his interest to represent the country in at least one Olympics in his career. Tokyo should be his only opportunity though... but, we´ll see

  25. no that was something else Asian unused quota was supposed to go to the next best ranked weightlifter. but there will be 3 unused host quotas. we still don't know which weights are going to receive them. (that will depend on 4 wild cards) but if one of them comes to this weight, Ireland is #1 priority to get that. unused host quotas are supposed to go to the next best weightlifter from NOCs "not represented yet"

  31. I understand you completelly. Even though its not a popular opinion, i am still happy to see nations that do not import athletes just to win a medal. Like Sweden in table tennis or Greece in many sports. Serbia DID have a foreign born player in 2015. Its Danielle Page. She played in Rio too.

  32. team for Tokyo 2020 was revealed yesterday On a positive note, I’m glad that the results from the control event were respected and any “finger” designation avoided, especially regarding Paola Espinosa who won’t be going On the other hand, some of this divers will be debuting on a high level event, so I think this Olympics could be taken as a generation relay and not so much as a sure medal haul. Best options will come from women’s 3m synchro, where basically any team can grab the bronze, as the other two positions will go to China and Canada in that order; and Rommel Pacheco in men’s 3m individual which I’d love to see finally winning an Olympic medal. So, total number will be 14, with the only athletes doubling up being the women in 10m platform @Benolympique

  33. It’s pure pettiness on those players in the top 20 men (40 for women), as they could spare a week to compete at the Olympics and actually give a chance for others to win a 250 title.

  34. Remember the era when a second false start by any athlete would be an automatic DQ? Think that was Beijing 2008. It quickly got to the point where you could tell which 100m runner in a heat - invariably the fifth-ranked by time - would do the first false start. So I don’t share your faith in sporting honesty.

  37. Like with most sports for which bookmakers only have odds during the Olympics (which is a large majority of Olympic sports) Which is also why the Olympics can be a goldmine.

  38. Yeah Sanita is no longer the favourite for gold in my opinion. A lot has happened since her world championship victories in 2018 and 2019 and the Russian looks like she is the top favourite based on recent results. I think Sanita will improve on her form by the time Tokyo comes round but if she can win a medal I will be very happy with that. Would be exciting to see her back to her best though. Let’s see what can happen

  43. To do well in triathlon now you need to be international standard in at least one of the three elements, so it’s difficult for small nations to divert people if they’re needed in their primary event.

  47. I would rather compare current world of "competing for whatever country I want" to the world of soccer, ice hockey or basketball. It has become a business and I think that we will be able to see it more and more. As mentioned above, athletes decide to represent another country because that country offers better conditions. It is like when someone play football for "FC Villagers" :-D .. a later is wanted by FC Slavia Prague. Of course, he goes, they offer better conditions and salary. From Slavia Prague he may go to Chelsea where are even better conditions and way higher salary. And in current world of Olympic sports? Oksana Chusovitina -》 :USR - - For me, personally very sad, freestyle skier Matěj Švancer. Winter Youth Olympic Games champion, world junior champion and big candidate to take one of the Olympic medals in Beijing 2022. Decided to compete for from next season. Competition is higher there but he trains in and their national team offers better conditions than national team as he said. I am really sad that he is not going to compete under our flag but on the other side, it does not make me cheer for him less. If he makes the Olympic Team, I think most of the Czechs will be still cheering for him and happy if he makes the medal. As another example, we may say some of the French speaking countries in Africa, where many great football players were born and later went to France and decided to take the French citizenship. We can't criticize them because it is what they do for living. As any other athletes in any other sports. I think it has become a common part of the world of sports and I think it should be respected from the side of Federation, opponents and fans.
