  9. What happened to our women's C2 500m team of Laurence vincent-lapointe and katie vincent? Why did it give Japan the Americas quota saying there were insufficient athletes when Canada is ranked number one in the world before Laurence missed the 2019 world championships? Shouldn't they get it because of their dominace from 2017-2019 and the fact Laurence was proven clean and there wasn't a chance for them to battle for a spot in the Americas region? I just don't understand how Japan got that spot when they aren't from the Americas region.

  13. and the other guys ate him alive later that was so sweet when the Uzbek guy pinned him to the Tatami. the last time he participated in a World Championship he claimed he was forced to lose. (which was a lie) I wonder what's his excuse today.

  14. Basically you can presume the highest point holder among all unqualified athletes of your nation combined with both genders will receive one continental quota.

  16. no, the only source I have is our main sport website, OA... no words yet by Frank nor the coaches (but they let people intend that he would only make the minimum effort to secure the no.1 seed in the interviews before travelling to Poland)...

  18. She will qualify for sure only if Colombia and Vietnam will both be banned, China will not select this weight

  19. not almost...it's definitely harder to qualify than winning a medal once you're in... especially in certain weight classes of kumite, it's really just up to that given day's shape...

  25. I think I found out. The difference for it is being the points from National Chmapionships.... I can't remember if WS ranking was already counting those points before the Worlds... So that's it, the National Championship of Colombia, put Jhancarlos in at Olympincs and Decenzo out. Because without those points, Decenzo has the same pontuation that I mentioned previously.... @intoronto

  27. actually the format is two pools of five athletes , top 2 advance to the semis
    1 point
  28. This will actually still be one of the larger field sizes Karate has had at any multi-sports games. Generally, Karate only gets 8 athletes per event. This is true for the World Games, Pan Am Games, European Games, and Central American and Caribbean Games. The only multi-sports games that come to mind with more athletes than that are those that still have unrestricted entry limits (Asian Games, African Games, and maybe Mediterranean Games).

  29. Be sure of that. In the last match against Austria we practiced very well our "lovely" game plan the so-called Slovak cement or simplified as the 10-0-0 style

  30. The four-member team format could shake things up, but, honestly, I doubt it. in men's artistic. However, I'm not completely sold on the Japanese team. I don't trust any of them. Tanigawa, in special, is very unpredictable and if he screws up like he did a number of times in the past, Japan will not win a medal. However, provided they hit, they should score well enough to guarantee a medal. Ukraine always seems to have trouble in team finals and Great Britain chose Whitlock for their team, and he can only contribute in one apparatus, so I'm not too confident these countries could challenge for the podium. Chinese Taipei, Brazil, USA and Switzerland can score well, but they will need a major upset from the big names to even come close to the scores from the three teams I mentioned. in women's artistic gymnastics. The US is the clear favorite here, thanks to Simone Biles, of course. The other girls are very good, but without Simone, they would be perfectly beatable. Don't let the unrealistic scores at US Nationals fool anyone: once Biles retires, the US team will not be nearly as dominant as they have been. For this year, however, they will still win gold. Russia has a couple of talented girls, but they usually receive higher scores than they deserve, so combine talent and bias and you have a favorite for the second place. Now, the bronze medal will be very interesting. China relies too much on one event: balance beam. If their gymnasts fail, other teams might sneak in. The question is which countries would be able to do it. To be honest, I don't see any country with a particularly good team. Great Britain picked a team with two great gymnasts and two solid, but not particularly talented girls. Italy lost all of its steam. France has MDJDS, but nothing else. Japan will probably be over scored because of home advantage, but they don't have a good team. Germany is a mere shadow of their former selves. Canada is struggling with a limited number of gymnasts to choose from. Belgium, Spain and the Netherlands are completely out of the picture and in my opinion will not even qualify for the final.

  31. Karate really should have been a 16 person tournament. I know the IOC wants to keep quotas tight, but it just doesn't feel like the tournament will do the sport justice.

  36. Would be incredible if Greece could win both singles titles. Also would be nice to see a Sakkari/Tsitsipas mixed double (at the olympics). First all-European slam semifinal on the women’s side since 2018 Australian Open.

  38. he collected good points because ranking system is terrible. he is surely not that good to be ranked 3. lots of wrestlers in Iran, Russia and USA will beat him easily but since they can send just 1 wrestler to Tokyo, yes he has a chance for medal. the thing is 3 wrestlers will eat the rest alive in this weight. Yazdani (IRN), Naifonov (RUS) and Taylor (USA) I highly doubt anybody touches them in Tokyo. thanks to this ranking system. Yazdani and Naifonov will be in the same side. and there is a 50% chance for Taylor to fall in the same side as well. after these 3 guys everybody has a chance for medal. (bronze or maybe even silver) I believe Amine, Shabanov, Gocen and Makoev are better than the rest. Amine has a better chance because he is guaranteed not facing Yazdani and Naifonov before the final.

  40. Speaking as an , I have seen middle & distance athletics go through these WR growth spurts before. Apart from the doping records, it’s down to technical or organisational progress. Late 60s/early 70s - end of the old dirt tracks, arrival of all weather tracks. Late 70s/early 80s - professionalisation & emergence of commercial televised meets Early 90s - Emergence of professionally managed East African athletes. Now we have this new combination of super shoes & computerised pace-making, opening up WRs long thought unbeatable. And what has always happened before is that eventually someone sets a genuinely unbeatable record, after which everything will settle down for another decade or so.

  41. That was the popular explanation of the WR back then - that Wang ran 24 laps instead of 25.

  44. WTF ?! so Derafshipour and Mahjoub are refugees !!! I really need to learn what the word refugee means. these guys still travel to Iran regularly. Derafshipour is a world bronze medalist in Karate, he lost Iranian trials then moved to Canada. now he can go the Olympics without doing anything while the guy who beat him in the trials has to go through 80-man bracket in World Qualifiers to qualify. this is the most disgusting thing from IOC, if these guys could qualify themselves by merit that was at least OK but even when they lost in the qualifiers, IOC found a way to let them in. lots of athletes around the world had to kill themselves to qualify for the Olympics while these guys can just walk to Tokyo.

  46. Good thing for Mourão the decision was largely based on the time before this year, because this year Goulão has been quite a lot better Hopefully she can improve her shape, although I do have good hope for that: the transition from cross-country skiing to the MTB World Cups was rather short, one can understand that's not very easy and things should get better now. And good to see the second Brazilian men's ticket does indeed go to Cocuzzi...there was a tiny bit of doubt for a moment, but even though he probably won't end up far in the front, he has had that one moment of brilliance last year where he was suddenly leading the field (before a flat tyre...)
