  2. It's two months and half to Olympics, I believe that IWF will make at least two more changes before deadline, or maybe even after...

  3. OK let's take a look at the draws, freestyle first 57kg: I see 3 big favorites in the top half, Takahashi, Andreu and Andreyev ! I think Takahashi will have a better chance becuse he has only one tough match ahead of him. while the winner of CUB/BLR in the first round still has to go through KGZ. I think Japan and Cuba will wrestle for the quota at the end. I believe first round match between two Georgian wrestlers (one of them is now wrestling for AZE) will be the key. Bekhbayar from MGL was impressive before but I wonder why they used another guy at the Asian QT !? is he not in shape ? there are some other good wrestlers in the bottom half, UKR, ITA, TJK. even KOR. but I think at the end it will be between AZE and MGL my picks: and 65kg: unbelievable draw! if I had to name 5 favorite wrestlers, all of them are in the bottom half ! Kilicsallayan has the draw of his life, he is not that great himself but I really don't see anybody callenging him for the quota. maybe Habat, or Semisorow or Mukhtarov. but wow, bottom half is really hard, Oliver, Bekbulatov, Gadzhiev. Georgia had to send Lomtadze (World Champion at 61kg) since Khincheghasvhili tested positive for COVID, Ukraine is also in the bottom half and I have to add Belarus, he is very dangerous as well. but I think it will be between UZB, POL and USA. Bekbulatov and Oliver will wrestle in the 2nd round. Gadhziev will face Skriabin (BLR) in the 2nd round. my picks: and 74kg: another very one-sided draw. there are some "good wrestlers" in the top half but all favorites are in the bottom side. KOR, ISR, HUN, UKR, GRE, ARM they all will have a chance in the top half. HUN has a first round bye and an easy second round. which will give him an advantage. but what about the bottom half ? Demirtas, Salkazanov, Kadimagomedov, Tsabolov. Budazhapov and Umarpashaev, I believe one of them will qualify. Kadimagomedov has to beat another Russian born wrestler in Budazahpov in the first round. Salkazanov has a better road to the SF, he will only face Umaspashaev in the QF, the guy who pinned him in Hungary, I think that won't happen again. I will pick Salkazanov just because he has easier 1st and 2nd round matches but we have to wait and see if he is still in a good shape only couple weeks after the European Champs. my picks: and 86kg: this is a weak weight in general, lots of good guys here. it's really hard to pick favorites. top half looks easier, I think ESP and POL will have a better chance here, maybe JPN or HUN the biggest question in bottom half is about,Aminashvili, he was good in Euro but is he ready now ? we also have AZE, BUL, CUB, GER, SVK and MDA. even UKR. I go with GEO but this will be very close between those guys. my picks: and 97kg: there are only 3 good wrestlers in the top half, ITA, GER and BUL. Thiele was very good at the European QT, his first round match vs Conyedo is like a final. the winner will wrestle Bataev in the semifinal. I give chance to 3 wrestlers here, UKR, POL and ROU. Baran did great at home during the European Champs but is he still ready ? he is stronger than Saritov but Saritov is like a snake and can score from any position. my pick here depends on these guys shape. Andiitsev didn't wrestle much recently. he is an Olympic medalist but 9 years ago. so for me it's between Poland and Romania. I consider that 50/50 my picks: and 125kg: I think the QF between Kozyrev and Baran will decide the top half. Kozyrev is new to the senior level and is beatable. but still he is Russian and they are always the favorite ! the bottom half is wide open, there is no favorite. lots of below average guys. the Azerbaijani guy is probably Russian so I pick him but I don't know much about him. maybe Aiaal Lazarev surprises him. my picks: and

  4. How the hell they could make such a BIG change at this point ? the worst part is "subject to participation in one (1) event in the same Olympic category" which means lots of weightlifters who can't qualify in their own weights can easily qualify in another weight just to have "fun" in Tokyo and deny someone else's right to participate btw all of my calculations mean nothing now this will help some of Iranian weightlifters but doesn't help those who matter. Moradi and Rostami are still out. (Rostami is a jerk though)

  6. Despite not qualifying any divers for the second consecutive Olympics, I am confident that we will have divers in Paris 2024. All three of the guys we sent here were very young (19-21 years old) and the best is yet to come for sure! They will be more ready in three years

  9. two more quotas Women's K1-500 ==> Men's K2-1000 ==> at least China beat Kazakhstan by a hair in the Men's K2 final to prevent team from winning all the quotas today. the women's K1-500 winner Natalya Sergeyeva is 45 years old !

  13. Too bad that Kimia doesn’t compete for Germany (yet). Maybe in 2024 ... Imagine an Iranian fighter fleeing Iran and deciding to compete for Israel ... Would be kind of a brilliant plan for Israel. Get someone from Iran to fight for you in each weight category in Wrestling/Taekwondo -> prevent Iran from winning medals and win more medals yourself

  14. she was on the Russian quadruple sculls at the 2019 world champs (the finished 9th, the first below the line, beaten by Italy with more than 2 sec margin in the B final of that event)... her improvement in the single sculls this year, however, is frankly more than suspect...

  15. I don't think so... the favourite in Tokyo is Kyle Dake, then Sidakov and Chamizo... Salkazanov had the day of his life at the Europeans, but he's not on the same level of those 3 yet...

  16. The IWF and the Boxing taskforce are competing to see who can run the worst qualification system. Every time I think one of them does something so stupid that they can’t be topped, they get topped.

  18. Based on this entry list let me dare a prediction: F+67: Top seed Germany and Netherlands, and normally they should make it, outsider chances to France F67: FRA and AZE should be top seeded, Wiet Henin is also absolute favorite here. The 2nd spot will be more open, could be between AZE, ESP, SWE, UKR and LAT, it will very much depend on the draw F57: Top seeds Latvia and Poland. I think it will be Latvia and Bosnia who qualifies. I am surprised that Belgium did not send Asemani and Spain not Calvo. Not sure what Alizadeh (RTA) is capable of, but don't give her too much chances. F49: Cyprus and Russia top seeds. I think it will be Russia and Germany, small chances for AZE and Dina Pouryounes (RTA) M-58: POR and MDA top seeds if I am not mistaken. This is a really difficult one, I would say Portugal and France or Hungary. the two refugee guys I don't know them, no idea, maybe they are good. M-68: Top seeds TUR and BUL, they are also the favorite, also chances for France and Sediqi (RTA) M-80: Top seeds Norway and Greece, I expect MDA and ITA maybe NOR M+87: Top seeds AZE and TUR, AZE should easily qualify, 2nd spot will be between Croatia and Turkey. If I got the top seeds wrong all is wrong

  20. I seriously doubt it. First he still has to qualify which is definitely far to be a certainty. Would be huge if he will compete in Tokyo, our combat sport extremely need it. But a medal, this is a too long shot. There plenty of most famous and stronger qualified countries in his category. Anyway our wrestling federation started an ambitious long term project with the goal, not less than two medals and four wrestlers in Paris 2024.

  23. Team Slovakia Mens C1 Alexander Slafkovský Matej Beňuš Michal Martikán *Quota Secured. All 3 fighting for Tokyo (The better placed athlete will earn the Golden ticket, Slafkovský in best position, basically a top 5 for him will be enough pending any of his opponents will not win Gold) K1 Jakub Grigar Martin Halčin Adam Gonšenica *Quota Secured. Also the Athlete is known. Jakub Grigar will compete at his 2nd Olympics after his 5th Place in Rio 2016. Womens C1 Simona Glejteková Zuzana Paňková Monika Škáchová *No Quota yet. Last chance for our girls, Basically a "All-in" situation for them here, first they have to qualify the country to the games, if they succeed, the girl who will manage to earn the quota for slovakia will also take it and go to Tokyo. K1 Eliška Mintálová Jana Dukátová Michaela Haššová *Quota Secured. Only Mintálová and Dukátová are fighting for Tokyo ( Mintálová is in better position, basically, not losing to Dukátová by bigger margin will be enough for her to qualify)

  25. Italy we already have 1 male quota (Vito Dell'Aquila, -58kg), so we're sending to Sofia 3 fighters, 1 male (Simone Alessio, -80kg) and 2 females (former Mexican Paulina Armeria Vecchi, -57kg and Maristella Smiraglia, -67kg)... Alessio should qualify without too many problems (unless he suicides by himself), meanwhile the girls will have a very difficult task, even if I hope at least 1 of the 2 would eventually make it to the Olympics...

  30. https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2021/may/03/japan-nurses-voice-anger-at-call-to-volunteer-for-tokyo-olympics-amid-covid-crisis Are they really going to be able to manage it. I am starting to fear the nightmare of the games starting but getting abandoned mid way through after mass outbreaks and lots and lots of random medalists due to depleted fields.

  31. Yes, you will probably have 2 or 3 quotas. Both women, especially Wiet-Henin, are very talented and well ranked. In men, Ravet is very young and he won the European Championship a few weeks ago, so even though in his weight there are athletes with a better ranking, he could defeat them. Chellamootoo is one of the favorites, but there a few of good athletes and only 2 quotas, so the draw will be very important.

Takže nyní Aneta, doktoří i trenéři budou dělat vše možné, aby to Aneta stihla :-) ...

fwiw Oliver Dingley lives and trains in and has done since before the last Olympics It is wild that Ireland now has a diving team!

  35. Both the Jamaican and Irish divers are from Yorkshire. Yona Knight has Jamaican and Barbadian parentage so could have competed for any of three countries. He used to train alongside many of the top British divers in his home city of Leeds. I don't know whether he still does so.

For me it's kind of odd we will have quantity but maybe not that efficiency in quality (specially in synchro events) so this time a medal could be up for mexican team with 10m platform if Willars/Balleza are selected though I think Garcia closed the deal taking the silver here. If we have a diver in the top 8 and an olympic diploma in each event I will be satisfied. There is potential for this to be achieved.

Glad we have a FULL TEAM qualified for the Olympics I guess first time since since the synchro events are contested Congrats to Spain for two spots!!! it's kind of a payback since they were close in the synchro but did not make it there Ruvalcaba taking a spot for Dominican Republic, good for him though would be fair if he lived and trained there not in Mexico And Canada grabs a spot here after all the problems they had, so the olympic dream for Gagne will be alive

Agree, although reallistically I think Willars/Balleza in 10m synchro could be our safest option for a medal in Tokyo. Others will make it to the final, but it will be a transition Games for Mexican diving like Athens edition.

Totally off, not in shape, he looked like he only went to Tokyo to kind of feel the experience and said at least he had the opportunity to be at the Olympic pool once. Wont qualify to the final and that is a mediocre and unacceptable performance from him, the only mexican who did not advance to the semifinals, kind of spoils the party Rodrigo Diego, well kind of hot and cold during prelims The 3m event for Mexico is not on a high note right now, can't really say we have a real contender except Celaya but only IF he has a good day

Randal Willars delivering on the big stage, of course chinese were not present here but this is an excellent result for the 19 year old with the Silver Medal and improving overall with his consistency, he got better piked position during his execution of the dives in C, and got +90 in three rounds, his only mistake was with a 70 points score. If nothing strange happens he has to be at the Olympics, would love to see a duo of teenagers with him and Kevin Berlin (2019 Panamerican champion) though Berlin's condition and situation is unknown, I have to say that Kevin has more pure raw talent than Randal BUT lacks (in hiw own words) discipline. Overall a good final with the new up and coming youngsters saying we are here, the canadian duo if consistent will be a big medal threat maybe not at Tokyo Games but watch out for them starting next year and coming Paris 2024
