  12. According that guy those people passed the security and burst into court as since few days in Chile are protests as policeman shot a local street juggler. In addition those people (fans of Club Alianza Bellavista) are protesting in different parts of the city as a construction company wants to close down the local soccer field and put there a housing estate instead.

  15. Word of today at the world championships track is that the downhills are only getting more and more dangerous and difficult. According to the veteran in the Brazilian team, the snow is now basically ankle deep in some of the curves. It's going to be an interesting challenge...(sadly not on TV, but only on the Eurosport Player apparently, due to the UAE Tour being on Eurosport 1 and - which is just unbelievable - a replay of an Australian Open semi being on Eurosport 2 Luckily I have the Player, but my family members who'd like to watch don't...).

  16. The results of the last World Cup are indeed distorted. Mainly due to the lack of Miho Takagi , Graeme Fish and Zhongyan Ning . Below I indicate per distance which changes I expect. Women: 500 - We missed Nao Kodaira , but the question is how good she still is. She seems to have passed her peak. Your prediction based on the WCH seems realistic. 1000 - We missed Miho Takagi , she is the big favourite in the medium distances. She will fight with Bowe en Leerdam for the gold. 1500 - We missed Miho Takagi , pretty sure she will win this. Wiklund was a very unexpected winner. Next year I expect Bowe , Wüst and Golubeva for the silver and bronze medal. 3000 - We missed Miho Takagi and Ayano Sato . Still I think the favourites for the medals are De Jong , Schouten , Wiklund , Voronina and Sablikoba . 5000 - We missed no one. Big fight next year between Schouten , Sablikova , Weidemann , Wiklund and Voronina . Reigning Olympic champion Esmee Visser may come back next year. Pursuit: Japan will win the gold. 100% sure. Men: 500 - We missed Tatsuya Shinhama , many other Japanese sprinters and Tingyu Gao . They can change the podium, although Russia remains a favorite. 1000 - We missed Zhongyan Ning , who will win a medal in front of his home crowd. Again the Russians are favorite, although I'm not pretty sure if Kulizhnikov may start in connection with his doping history. 1500 - We missed Zhongyan Ning , no way the Dutch will get a clean sweep. Anyway, Nuis and Krol remain the other favorites. 5000 - We missed Graeme Fish . Normally he fights with Van der Poel and Roest for the gold. 10000 - We missed Graeme Fish and TJ Flowers , will be exciting to see them compete with Van der Poel . Pursuit: Japan becomes better and better, I expect a close battle with Norway, Netherlands, Canada and Russia. Mass start: unpredictable!

  17. I like this sport, really fun at the recent Winter universiade, but the fun was not only from watching it, but also with following the GPS of athletes. Hope there will be some way to check spoiler free replays with GPS included. I'll probably be working during live races. Ski Orienteering World Championship starts tomorrow with first races on Wednesday.

  18. As per Olympic alternate rules, they do not get a medal or get included in the team roster, unless they get subbed in at some point. Once subbed in, they can no longer go back to their alternate status, I believe.

  22. This sport doesn't get the same media attention as other sports, but it probably still would have been the most disastrous and embarrasing result in Croatian sports history (embarrassing it still is). In two games we didn't manage to beat Russia, a team that drew with Romania, barely won against France and lost quite clearly against Greece.

  34. Yeah, let's be fair...I mean, a few in the medals, sure, but really no gold has gone to anyone that surprising. Faivre might not have been the favourite, but he's far from some random winner of course.

  36. in Oberstdorf, they should hire the Cortina snow crew... despite those temperatures, they've been able to keep the tracks working perfectly (and yesterday's top time in the 2nd run by Liensberger and today's Vinatzer's 2nd time in the 1st run with no.17 are there to show that, before someone is going to say something)...

  43. Downhills are going to be....interesting. Due to the weather, the snow is very soft and so the skis go deep into the snow. Especially the downhills, which are mostly in the sunny part and are already challenging by itself, are going to be a challenge because of this.

  48. I think it’s fair to say Ski Orienteering was a hit at 2019 Winter Universaide. The sport got added to the 2021 Winter Universaide after the Games, and now it’s been made a compulsory sport by the FISU starting at the 2027 Winter Universaide. Source: https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1101285/ski-orienteering-fisu-2027-university Interestingly, the IOC rejected its inclusion in the Winter Olympic program back in 2006 (along with Ski Mountaineering and Winter Triathlon). I think it might be time for the IOC to consider SkiO and SkiMo for inclusion once more...
