  1. Futselaar's finish in 2:11.30 AKA the Olympic limit:

  2. A golf team event with a Match Play format would be amazing. It doesn't need new quotas and offers something completely different. I hope they asked that cause I can see it happening

  3. Right, the IOC has implemented some awful polices. Most of the events added to the last coupes Olympics wouldn’t be bad if: A) Gender equality was achieved by adding women’s events, without reducing the number of men’s events. B) Quotas weren’t cut to save costs, instead the IOC made institutional changes to decrease costs, lower corruption, and improve the overall world view of the organization. C) The IOC made the processes for adding sports/disciplines/events more transparent. D) The IOC held IFs accountable for issues like corruption, lack of athlete representation, etc.

  4. "men's field could allow the women's team sprint to grow from a two to three-rider competition - in line with the men's." 5 team men's sprint in 2028!! What a worldwide global competition..

  5. Actually, it was in Obertilliach ? But at least I can say that I paid it back later by beating her in a crazy sprint on the hardest uphill of Martell's track, in last lap of my very last Biathlon race (in front of many coaches that were getting crazy and yelling a lot by seeing her being beaten by a brazilian up there ?) *Just up there. Of course she overtook me on the downhill right after. But anyway, the uphill battle was a magic moment ??

  10. Golfers have long complained about the Olympic format being too much like every other random PGA event. Adding a team element and/or matchplay would be really popular among the athletes and would make the Olympics more attractive to golf fans. Match play is also way more interesting for people who aren't inherently golf fans. If I had it my way you'd have a men's, women's and mixed matchplay event with two person teams.

  11. it's not popular in Asia, and it's not in the Asian Games program. only in the minor multi-sport events and almost only whenever Thailand hosts it ! as of today BMX freestyle had never been in the AG program. even Skateboarding only made it to the AG after IOC approved it for Tokyo 2020. don't blame Asia for IOC's delusions

  19. They will not lose so many long time die-hard fans like us, because - even if we agree that they make so many bad decisions and there are so many hilarious mistakes in IOC work - there is one truth: THERE IS STILL NOTHING BETTER IN INTERNATIONAL SPORTS THAN OLYMPICS ITSELF. I can't find anything which could be considered as a better thing to watch.

  21. Best surfing venue in France, and one of the most important surging venue anywhere in the world. Also wrong season for Biarritz. They could definitively hold surfing in Biarritz, but the opportunity to hold Olympic surfing in Tahiti is just too good to pass up. Athletes and surfing fans seem very excited about it.

  23. There’s really no good argument for why Squash isn’t already on the Olympic program. Karate really should be a core sport as well. Floorball has a lot more development needed, but it could be a great candidate one day.

  24. I would be ok with 2-3 maybe 4 new events but those which have many participating nations already, not thinked up in few seconds and without consultation with athletes and coaches (like it is with extreme canoeing) and if those changes doesn't affect already exisiting events. For example women's C-1 in slalom could be added to programme without removing men's C-2. If IOC can't increase number of available quotas then they shouldn't do any changes.

  25. Please, god, no. As a former fencer I have an urge to stab anyone who proposes a mixed weapon event. Fencing is blessed with a great team format, lets not mess with it. Especially now that we finally, at long last, got the full complement of team events in the Olympics.

  26. To be honest, some changes aren't even bad. It's just others are REALLY BAD, so it overshadows other decent changes. Another Race Walk event for women is needed. High Diving is fine, I wouldt mind it taking Artistic Swimmings spot tbh. Ligthweigth rowing adds nothing to the games. Coastal rowing is a developed and entreteining sport completely different to anything already on. I support that change. Same thing with Sailing. I get people not liking "mixed events", but it kind of makes sense in Sailing, and it opens the door for other exciting boats. Same thing for Mixed Skeet or mixed time trial, I can live with it being in the games. Aything else, garbage.

  27. I was kidding actually I just wanted to say that such thing is not really popular in Asia. and yes I totally agree with you. these events should have decent World Championships for so many years in first place (with at least 40-50 NOCs participating) before even asking to be in the Olympic program.

  28. This tournament has the strictest hygiene measures and protocol ever used. all 10 teams must be in super special quarantine bubble in their respective country for a whole month, where no one is allowed to enter or leave, everyone must have its own room, they meet together basically only for trainings and team briefings, they are frequently tested and retested etc..., then after a month all teams undergo another testing before departure and also after arrival to Edmonton, then the teams will be placed in a single special bubble where the whole tournament will take place without spectators.

  29. I hope that none above disciplines won't be added after all, or just 3-4 of them. Such things like BMX flatland, coastal rowing, extreme canoeing and high diving should be reserved only for X Games, not Olympics... IMO removing/changing "traditional" events isn't good, not mentioning about reducing number of quotas and athletes.

  33. Another qualifications for the Dutch swimming team for the OG at day 4 of the OQT in Rotterdam: 100 back women: Kira Toussaint (58.91) 4x100 women: Marrit Steenbergen (54.18) and Kim Busch (54.28) - Kromowidjojo & Heemskerk were already qualified At the end 12 swimmers are qualified. Unfortunately no 4x100 men. Edit: 1 additional swimmer was selected for the Olympics - Maaike de Waard (58.10) for the 100 fly (medley relay). So 13 swimmers are officially qualified for The Netherlands.

  39. Nope, so besides Abdi Nageeye now also Bart van Nunen and the miracle that is Frank Futselaar qualified Björn Koreman might still try if there's a chance to have an official race somewhere, he would try this weekend in Poland but that got cancelled. Then there's Khalid Choukhoud who might try it as well, but that's about it - which is a lot more than what I expected, I hadn't really expected more than Nageeye Futselaar doing what Michel Butter in the end never could. Futselaar ran exactly the limit, Butter missed it by eight seconds in Amsterdam in 2015 in one of the more heartbreaking moments in Dutch athletics (watch from roughly 1:54 for his last few 200 meters or so)

The national champion earn many points for the olympic rankng so he tried to make the pace for Morvay and then dnf to let Michal win the title and points. It was staged already weeks before the race, when he achieved the direct olympic standard in October himself.

  48. TISC Annual 2021 - Possible Extension to Period of Song Eligibility The votes are in..... the vote was very close (unlike the recent TISC Open) and we have an outcome. All votes have been counted, even the postal ballots Question 1: Due to COVID-19, should we extend the eligibility period for songs for TISC Annual 2021 as a once-off? (a) Yes, we should extend the eligibility period - 9 (b) No, it should remain the same - 10 Outcome of vote: The rule does not change, the eligibility period for TISC Annual 2021 will not be extended beyond the usual criteria. Question 2: Currently, the eligibility period for the TISC Annual 2021 means that songs released after 1 January 2020 are eligible. If we extend the eligibility period for songs for TISC Annual 2021, how much of an extension should be offered? (Please answer this question even if you answered no to Question 1): (a) 3 month extension (song released after 1 October 2019 are eligible) - 6 (b) 6 month extension (songs released after 1 July 2019 are eligible) - 11 (c) 12 month extension (songs released after 1 January 2019 are eligible) - 2 Outcome of vote: The preferred option if there would have been an extension would be to allow a 6-month extension. However, as users voted against any extension in Question 1 it means the eligibility period will remain the same and will not be extended for TISC Annual 2021.
