  2. There are probably only 5% or less of Totallympics users that approve boycotting sporting events for political reasons. After all, we know better than the average person the stains left in the history of sports, because of such acts. Also Americas image has been tarnished for years now, very few things that happen there seem normal.

  5. Well, if black Americans only see NBA as entertainment, not as something they can be proud of being the best at, no matter the circumstances, than your sport is just as broken as your country is.

  6. Literally every league tried “have a cool ceremony/moment of silence before the game,” since they started playing again. Some put on practice clothing with slogans like “Black Lives Matter”, “Say Their Names”, “End Racism,” etc. That clearly did nothing, and while I doubt boycotting games will do much either, it’s a hell of a statement. It says “this system is broken, and we no longer endorse it.” It’s strange how some people talk about athlete empowerment, and then get upset when athletes get empowered about political and social issues. To quote many of the players wh

  8. People have already forgotten that this guy was only “interacting” with the Police in the first place because he was beating up his girlfriend & she called the cops. Would it be better if the Police just ignored such calls from Black areas?

  9. NHL is only and only about money nowadays everyone knows that, NHL is not capable to even start discussing to make a fucking 2 weeks break during the Winter Olympics which are basically build for this sport as the main and most popular winter sport, so you can not be surprised Bettman and co. will not stop a single match because of politics or whatever...I believe Bettman will not stop a match even if a atomic bomb will explode in the city Anyway, Hockey a bourgeois sport ? that one made my day

  11. i really don't know what people can really find to be funny in all of this and whether these players are making this for propaganda or overacting i stand with their demands of social justice and i hope one day here in Egypt there're some players that do the same for all people who suffer injustice and being held in prisons for their political opinions

  14. I suppose the good thing is that it’ll open the NBA up to a lot of new players. Up until now very tall young guys have had a monopoly of the best jobs in the Sport. However, now that it’s all about boycotts and not about playing basketball anyone - short, fat, middle-aged, one-legged - will be able to become a pro basketball boycotter. So the whole sport becomes a lot more equal.

  16. All games on August 27 will be boycotted. The organizers have suspended play for the day in recognition of current events in the United States. Play will resume on Friday.

  17. There was different context there of course. Hungary needed to prove it’s strength internationally. The players wanted to make a statement against the Iron Curtain and against the Soviet Union. The one way to do that was to win at the Olympic Games. “Blood in the Water” was their victory because it humiliated the Russians, and that was the best they could do. Many Americans see the NBA as a form of entertainment. In fact, much of the criticism for players trying to speak out has landed along the lines of “shut up and dribble.” They’ve chooses to do the opposite to make a statement.

  22. Boycotting games because of an ongoing political event is just dumb (unless the organizers are responsible for the situation). Just look at what the Hungarian athletes did a couple of weeks after the Hungarian revolution in 1956. They went to the Olympics and won 9 gold medals. And they beat the Soviet Union in water polo, in one of the most historical matches of the sport ever. They proved that their community can't be beaten by oppression. That's far more powerful than delaying a competition.

Went for an easy 7.5k today, but since I had registered for the 10km at the virtual Ushuaia Loppet (cross-country marathon in Argentina, which is cancelled but now has a virtual race for 5/10/21/42km where one can choose running, skiing or rollerskiing) and this is the last week, I decided to go for my goal of 55 minutes and see where it ended up, mostly so I could cross it through and be done with it 5:14 5:07 5:05 5:06 5:09 5:03 5:22* 5:20 5:12 4:48 Bringing my total to 51:23 and a new PB *Significantly dying and slowing down from the
