  1. No actually we will resume next Tuesday. Sorry, and an apology to each of you. Had another fight with the internet company, as my connection is unstable since Sunday, with my main efforts being completing my duties while I'm still on home office duty and until me and my coworkers can safely return to our physical location, following sanitization after a collaborator was infeceted with COVID. Today is the first day in which, I have been able to stay online for more than two hours straight. As for the schedule, it will be moved to next week. Expect your voting assignments, with Repechage and First Challenge Matches being rescheduled for next Tuesday

  2. day #14...slowly coming towards the end... so, my "Olympic depression" would normally be at its climax, entering the final weekend... however, my "top event(s) of the day" are surely Wrestling (the great day of Frank Chamizo...will he finally become Olympic Champion?) and Karate (the great day of Luigi Busà...such a career can't finish without an Olympic Gold medal, he truly deserves it)... also not to be missed: women's Beach Volley and women's Field Hockey Gold Medal matches, Athletics (the whole program, especially the men's 50km and the women's 20km Race Walk), Track Cycling (women's Madison above all), Sport Climbing's last event of the Games, Table Tennis (men's Team event Gold medal match), women's Modern Pentathlon and men's Waterpolo semifinals... then, in the third row, all the remaining sports in the schedule...

  3. Friday Day 14 I would defenitely watch athletics - whole evening session is very interesting for me. W 1500 (with Sofia Ennaoui?), W Javelin (Maria Andrejczyk?) and 4x100 relays above all. Beach Volleyball W final Boxing M Heavyweight final W football final W handball semis Some track cycling, sports climbing and canoeing (can sb explain to me why they got rid of M K4 1000 and there is M K4 500 instead? This is such a stupid decision. K4 1000 was the best event, full of tactics. And M K4 500 is much less entertaing, this race is just too short).

  4. I really don't pay attention to ceremonies. I do watch them, but they are largely forgotten when the competition starts.

  5. Hockey finals today, but above all the 4x100 relays! And from a Dutch point of view the Madison at Track Cycling. Kirsten Wild and Amy Pieters became world champion this year, but both are of a respectable age already. I'm afraid 2021 will come too late for them. Wild thought she was already retired by now ...

  8. Day 15 SuperHiperSaturday I would like to watch so many things. This is much too much to watch in one day. There were some less entertaining days before but this Saturday really a lot would be going on at the same time. Impossible to see it all live as it would happen. I would have to make my priorities and watch some replays later. Anyway, things to do are: M volleyball final - i hope it would be Poland vs USA. And i hope it would be a really good match. Athletics - firstly W marathon (i wish they could move it back to Tokyo) And The whole evening session. Big chance for a medal for Poland in W 4x400. W High jump (Lasitskene vs Ukrainians vs Kamila Lićwinko). M 1500 (with Marcin Lewandowski?). And all the other events. Last Canoeing finals. W K4 500 is a Chance for a medal for PL, too. In M C1 1000 Tomasz Kaczor was 2nd in Wch 2019 but if the Games would be in 2020 he would miss it due to injury. But he should be ready for 2021. I would watch W C2 500 and M K4 500 as well, but I really think M K4 1000 would be much more interesting. Basketball M final. Is it the first time in the Olympics when a M Gold medal Match would be played before the bronze medal game? Handball M final Equestrian jumping team final Football M final Beach volleyball M final Diving M 10m platform final And in spare time I would support one of my favourite athletes these days in her ind. All-around final in rhythmic gymnastics - Linoy Ashram of Israel

    [OFF TOPIC] General Chat

Anyone else feeling like they're lost on Totallympics lately? I generally use it via the Unread Topics section, but it's just so full I generally see that and think "meh, forget it" and close Totallympics after a few seconds

  10. In german it’s „Kapstadt“. Hungary is both too poor and too small to host the Olympics, Spain is only too poor (in the sense of „Spain can’t afford to host the Olympics if we‘re being honest“). In my opinion only very few countries should be allowed to host the Olympics (given the insane costs of hosting them): Summer: USA, GB, China, Japan, France, Germany, South Korea, maybe Netherlands, Australia, Canada Winter: Norway, Sweden, USA, China, Japan, France, Germany, South Korea, Canada, Switzerland, Austria, Finland, maybe Russia On day 14 I would watch: Beach volleyball women‘s medal match (if a German team is involved), hockey women’s medal Match (if Germany is involved), table tennis men’s medal match (if Germany is involved), track cycling women’s sprint, athletics women’s javelin throw & women‘s 4x100 m relay & women‘s 1500 m (if a german athlete is involved), equestrian jumping team qualifier

  17. I usually don't watch the full opening ceremonies, I'm not an artistic soul by any means so I quickly forget about them even if I see some extra action. I really only watch the nations' parade and the lightning of the cauldron

  18. Great news is that the very truncated World Athletics Continental Tour starts again next week. As you may remember - if you have very long memories - this is the 2nd level of World Athletics, but normally includes some very good meets like Hengelo, Berlin, Madrid etc. https://www.worldathletics.org/competitions/world-athletics-continental-tour/calendar/2020 The GOLD level meets will all be live on YouTube. So first one is at Turku on Wednesday. And there will also be some Diamond League meets, starting in Monaco in one week https://www.worldathletics.org/competitions/diamond-league/calendar/2020

  19. Bah, Humbug. No mass dancing. No light shows. No allegorical representations of the Sun Goddess being born from the depths of the ocean. London 1948. The Austerity Olympics. Military band marches, plays some tunes. Athlete’s Parade. King declares Games open. Olympic flame lit. Everyone leaves the Stadium & queues for the bus home.

  20. Sochi is miles ahead than the others obviously... Pyeongchang for me is Incheon 2014 Deluxe, their mix of traditional and modern stuff wasn't really good thus making it not super amazing. Vancouver did not have a particular highlight for me, I remembered it solely because I watched several times. Turin - Ferrari Salt Lake - "On behalf of the proud, determined, and grateful nation I hereby grant you a graceful throw of a shoe from my left hand"

  21. Just because there’s a little chatter about this on the 2016 Replays Thread, I thought I’d remind everyone about this thread. @Vojthas and myself had a conversation about ceremonies in the 2000s and couple weeks back, and noticed some of y’all informally ranking ceremonies from the 2000s in the Replays thread. So here’s my rankings of 2000s from the perspective of someone very into the artistic segments, cultural significance, and politics of opening ceremonies: Summer: 1. Rio/London - This is a dead tie for me. London sold the UK as a cultural brand, while Rio gave us the soul of Brazil. For London, Pandemonium stands out as possibly the greatest artistic segment of all-time. Both Games have very memorable cauldron designs as well. 3. Athens - So began the use of floating stages, and storytelling really designed for the television over the stadium audience. Flaming rings are possibly still the most used image of the Olympic Rings. 4. Beijing - Who doesn’t remember the drummers? Don’t get me wrong, this ceremony was spectacular at the time. The thing that spoils it for me is that I’ve come to realize China can just pull off a show like this whenever they want too. Watch the Wuhan 2019, Guangzhou 2010, Nanjing 2014 ceremonies. It’s all more of the same unfortunately. Beijing was an incredible ceremony, it just doesn’t hold a special place in my heart like the others. 5. Sydney - Not bad either, just a little outdated compared to the others. Winter: 1. Sochi - Oddly enough the ceremony remembered more for it’s large gaff with the Olympic Rings, is also my favorite. Putin wanted to put on a show, and he did. It was an impressive ceremony. I really enjoyed traveling through Russian history, and seeing how Russians (Putin) chose to portray it. The Russian Team entrance into the stadium was epic too with that awesome pop/rap song. 2. Vancouver - Another ceremony marked by a massive failure. Besides the cauldron mishap, this was a solid ceremony. Projections were very cool at the time, and the staging was rather unique with they entire audience wearing those white parkas. 3. Turin - Haven’t watched, but know it’s probably bette than the next two. 4. Pyeongchang - There’s nothing wrong with this ceremony, there’s just nothing that really stands out either. I will say that beautiful rendition of the Korean folk song by that older singer was very moving. Also, Pita was shirtless again, and that’s always a win. 5. Salt Lake - Ugh

The American Song Contest will be held in a one-v-one knockout elimination format (March Madness style as it has been labeled). 25. Looks like tomorrow is the day for both the women's football and field hockey finals, I hope we get to see Dutch teams in both of those! And then there's track cycling and athletics for the rest of the day and hopefully a semifinal in handball too. With some beach volleyball and sports climbing sprinkled in out of interest moreso than Dutch contenders.
