These times are insane, but what can you do when they reduce your quotas.

Good for us, i'm tired to see people of our team that qualify and then finish +40th at the games.

But really, what is point of this? Most insane standard is for women's 400 IM. 4:38 A standard

Actually this should help mid-tier teams to have more swimmers.

Big nations will have harder time qualifying two athletes via OQT in many events, leaving more for OST nations/athletes.

on the contrary, I think it will kill many mid-tier teams hopes...

the top team will always have 2 swimmer per discipline...those standard are tough, but you can be sure that USA, AUS, RUS, GBR, JPN and many other powerhouses won't have any problem to find 2 men/women that can match those times (even Italy has at least 3/4 girls who could swim 4.38 or close in the women's 400 IM, for instance)...

it's the small Nations that could find even the B-standard outside their chances...

imho, the A-standard is correct as it is...it's the B-time that's a bit too hard and should be slightly amended...

To those who are interested, here is a list of events (partial, I think/hope) of events recognized by FINA in which it is possible to achieve the minimum qualification standard:
