Apart from the proviso you have made about football, GB also have a strong record in hockey with more Olympic medals than any country apart from the Netherlands. They also have a good record in rugby/rugby sevens. You're right about the other Olympic team sports but then no country has a record of success in every one of the team sports given their different histories and backgrounds. 

 

P.S. One record that is unlikely to be broken is that GB is the only country to have won Olympic gold medals in both hockey and ice hockey.

Apart from the fact that Froome's dad moved to Kenya long after it had gained independence so it's colonial past is of no real relevance in this case.

Rugby is a Commonwealth sports. There's a reason why so few teams actually excell at this and they are the same nations over & over again. Same applies for cricket which is like played in one country in Europe, lol. Olympics is a global sport, rugby & cricket are no global sports by any means. Rugby sevens appeases the unknown tbh. It's a waste of an Olympic spot IMO.

Unlikely? Literally was an overtime away from happening with Germany last year.

Plus England was cleared by the other federations as representative for GB quite late during the qualification process, I think everything should be settled before the start of the qualifications in order to be fair to other teams.

No, GBR qualifies on the quota won by England. That's possible in the Women's competition.

Germany was close in 2018, only losing against Russia in last minute. I also believe that USA has the potential to win hockey gold on the women's side.

I agree that there is a potential conflict of interest. However, ask any Scot which they would much rather happen - Team GB qualify for the Olympics or Scotland beat England. 999 times out of a thousand they will say Scotland to beat England!!!  Even the Scottish First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon said as much before the World Cup.
