Yeah, field hockey tends to be a bit more strict.

Though I imagine there will be a few more sports that won't give the host quota should someone like Qatar host the Olympics.

for a second I just tried to imagine Qatar women's handball/basketball teams at the Olympics. :d

@JoshMartini007 @MHSN Have you both already forgotten the men's handball team at Worlds hosted by Qatar? They have enough money to buy a new team and even a medal.

Good point, :d even though rules in FIBA doesn't let them buy a "whole new team" they cheated in past forging documents, but once in 2011 (or 2013) FIBA investigated seriously and disqualified 6-7 of their players, they had to play the Asian Championship with only 4-5 players :d

but seriously it will be a disaster if Qatar hosts the Olympics, mostly because they usually start buying athletes (or taking it to another level) when they host a competition. this wave of naturalizing athletes in different sports started for the 2006 Asian Games in Doha. they always had naturalized players in handball but when they hosted the World Champs they bought a complete team ! so let's just hope that never happens. :pope:

So, they changed the format for Tokyo. Instead of two groups of 6 teams, we'll have 3 groups of 4 teams. Top 2 teams advance plus 2 best third placed.

Good. Now just add the remaining 4 teams and finally a decent reformation is done.
