Okay, men's pursuit is a lock I guess. :p

If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated! Full story and how to help can be found here!

I wouldn't say Bloemen is a clear favourite by the way, he's not exactly known to be one who peaks under pressure so far :p

I mean, it depends which team shows up. The Netherlands pursuit team has looked like amateurs in two of the three events.

FWIW I think Koen Verweij is a heavy favorite since Yuskov and Kulizhnikov probably won't be allowed to compete (even though Yuskov's doping ban was kinda BS).

There may be other problems for Yuskov...

I think he also thrives on fast ice, such as Calgary and SLC, whereas Sven is usually better on the sea-level rinks.

The men's 5.000m can be really exciting, if Sven manages to qualify. One off-day at the end of December and he might not be in.

If Wikipedia is to be believed, Pedro Causil is the first South American to ever qualify for the Olympics in speed skating, while this will be the first Olympics since 1936 (and the first since becoming independent from the Soviet Union) where Estonia competes in Speed Skating.

Olympic speed skaters from North/South America and Caribbean = 298

USA and Canada = 297  British Virgin Islands = 1

Every other country = 0

ISU announced the qualification standings for speed skating, baring any reallocation or issues with the 180 athlete quota. Keep in mind most countries won't use their maximum quota due to athletes competing in multiple events.

The Netherlands is the only country with the maximum number of quotas in every event. Canada also has the maximum number of athlete quota.

I can tell you right now that Italy at 99.9% will use just 5 (max 6) men's quota (Nenzi in 500/1000m, Giovannini, Tumulero, Ghiotto, Bugari for all the other individual events and the Team Pursuit and maybe a further reserve guy -with no chance of skating in the actual Olympic event, however- for this last one) and only 3 women's quota (Yvonne Daldossi 500/1000m, Bettrone 1000m/Mass Start and Lollobrigida 3000m/Mass Start)...

there's no chance to see any other athlete in our team...

The max quota is just an upper bound, a lot of (most?) NOCs won’t use them all.
