Federer91 2,134 Posted June 6, 2017 #22 Share Posted June 6, 2017 RIP 117 year legacy of The Davis Cup... And the lame players that only care for money, would probably welcome it with open hands.. In a fantasy world big mouth Nadal, Murray etc. would protest this decision, but when it's not in their favour why bother...
dcro 10,179 Posted June 6, 2017 #23 Share Posted June 6, 2017 Is DC really something that big/important (if we exclude the hype, of course...)? Croatia for example played final last year, so I have to actually believe we are the second best nation in men's tennis, behind Argentina? Yeah, not... #banbestmen

Definitely the tournament with the best atmosphere of all, or at least in many of the top matches. I've been at the Davis Cup doubles match during the NED - SUI match-up in 2012, when Haase/Rojer beat Federer/Wawrinka and the atmosphere was just electric. Just like it is many times I watch DC on TV. Yeah, not... That's the same in any tournament, reaching the final and losing it doesn't mean you're the 2nd best nation/player/team in the world. Same goes for Argentina, really. So winning tournament also means nothing? Anyway, introducing the short format might be the blessing in disguise, as more top players may opt to play. #banbestmen

It doesn't mean nothing, but winning it doesn't automatically mean you're the best tennis nation in the world, just like winning the football World Cup doesn't automatically mean you're the best football nation in the world, it just means you were the strongest at that tournament If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated!
