JoshMartini007 2,130 Posted March 25, 2016 #6 Share Posted March 25, 2016 No New Zealand player in the women's table tennis Oceania qualifier, most likely Fiji will qualify.
dcro 10,172 Posted March 25, 2016 #7 Share Posted March 25, 2016 (edited) Fiji gets a table tennis player for the first time ever. Australia qualifies 4 (2+2) while New Zealand qualifies in men's after defeating Vanuatu. I wonder if New Zealand will accept that quota, their player lost easily to Australians... It would be sad for Vanuatu if they keep it. They are quite unlucky in this qualifications. They wasted a big chance to qualify in football after losing to Fiji on penalties. They also have a boxer that is good enough to be the best in Oceania, but Asia and Oceania have been merged after 2012... mrv86 2,852 Posted April 1, 2016 #9 Share Posted April 1, 2016 Seeing the draws for the 1st day of Latin America qualification tournament, the favourites for the ticket will be Gustavo Tsuboi in the upper half (although Madrid has a small chance to stop him in quarterfinals and Alto , if he advances to semifinals, could also give the surprise) and Brian Afanador in the bottom part (who doesn't seem to have a strong rival, tough he must watch for Cuba's Andy Pereira). In women's, Adriana Diaz and Lin Gui will be an interesting match for one of the tickets, with the other will probably being contested between Yadira Silva who is attempting to comepte in her third consecutive Olympics and Caroline Kumahara :BRA. I just hope third time is a charm for Madrid; the poor guy has been on the line on the past two Olympic cycles, being defeated in 7 sets in the decisive match. MHSN 3,047 Posted April 1, 2016 #10 Share Posted April 1, 2016 It seems India already qualified 1 male and 1 female player for Rio ! here is the start list for the Asian Qualifiers http://ittf.com/Ol_Qual/2016AS/2016_AQT_Entries.pdf per rules, in first stage we will have separate tournaments for each zone and the winner qualifies for Rio, India is the only country registered from South Asia, so it will be a competition between those 4 Indian players in each gender.
