Totallympics Annual International Song Contest 2017

Wish You Were Here....

Today we have a selection of entries from former participants from Spain, Guyana and Norway. Spain have intermittently competed at TISC since their first appearance in the TISC Annual in 2014 and achieved their best finish at the TISC Open in 2015 where their entry scored strongly to place 8th.

Guyana took TISC by storm at the inaugural event with Eddy Grant and his song "Gimme Hope Jo'anna" coming agonisingly close to the podium, finishing in 4th place. Eddy Grant has since gone on to represent Guyana a further two times at the TISC Open but to date Guyana hasn't been able to reach the heights they achieved at that first edition.

And finally we reminisce on Norway's sole entry from their only participation in TISC, placing 15th at the TISC Annual in 2014.

Let's hope these nations will write a new chapter in their TISC journey in the years to come!

No news yet from Norfolk Island, but since North Korea also starts with 'Nor', I thought, why not post a Glorious Song? :d

I have absolutely no idea what they're singing and probably that's for the best, but I really like the melody of this one and it's been stuck in my head for 2 days now :red:

If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated! Full story and how to help can be found here!

really miss Guyana :(

Eddy Grant's Electric Avenue is still one of the 2-3 songs of past contests that I relatively often listen :cheer:

Noura Mint Seymali is a nationally beloved star and one of Mauritania’s foremost musical emissaries.  Born into a prominent line of Moorish griot (West African praise singers, poets and musicians) Noura began her career at age 13 as a supporting vocalist with her step-mother, the legendary Dimi Mint Abba.  From a very early age, she was trained in instrumental and vocal technique by her grandmother, Mounina, mastering the ardine, a harp reserved only for women, and singing at weddings with family.  Seymali Ould Ahmed Vall, Noura's father, was similarly an important teacher, himself a seminal figure in Mauritanian music who devised the first system for Moorish melodic notation and composed many works popularized by his wife, Dimi.  Seymali sparked Noura’s compositional instincts and encouraged her earliest experimentations with fusion music.  Reared in this rich and transitive music culture where sounds from across the Sahara, the Magreb and West Africa coalesce, Noura Mint Seymali currently drives the legacy forward as one of Mauritania's most adventurous young artists.
