Egypt again loses a final to South Africa despite being at home and the opponent not having some of their best players :facepalm:and after they had beat them Johannesburg with a full team!

Something curious: so far all the continental championships have been won by the same nations in both men and women, will that mean India will win Asian women's cup?

the main problem is always the fear of losing to SA , so when ever we lead the match we go back and defend at our side and never see the goal again like if we play a world class team and surely SA now isn't , because we have those local coaches who always think about SA that it's the team that couldn't be beaten in Africa , i'm much more frustrated with hockey loss than volleyball one and ofc. there're no spectators , so the referee can whistle for a penalty corner for a very ordinary penalty corner 2 minutes before the end of the game

Well, the problem with these continental championships (except European div I) is that there isn't video referral, so there'll always be dodgy decisions in goals and/or PCs since hockey is very difficult sport for referees with the tiny ball and the speed of play.

I'm sad Egypt couldn't qualify, it's always good to see new faces in big tournaments and also because South Africa will just be a punching bag at the WC with this current level.

  • 4 weeks later...

The Netherlands won the Hockey World League by winning all 6 matches with a goal difference of +18, without any of their opponents scoring a single goal against them.

Group phase:

:NED 4 - 0 :NZL

:NED 2 - 0 :USA

:NED 3 - 0 :KOR

Final rounds:

:NED 4 - 0 :CHN (QF)

:NED 2 - 0 :KOR (SF)

:NED 3 - 0 :NZL (F)

With :KOR winning the bronze medal by defeating the Olympic champions from :ENG  (well :GBR won the gold in Rio, but all players were from :ENG), all three medalists of this Hockey World League were in the same group.

Draw for the Women's World Cup was done:

Pool A - :NED:CHN:KOR:ITA

Pool B - :ENG:USA:IND:IRL

Pool C - :ARG:GER:ESP:RSA

Pool D - :NZL:AUS:JPN:BEL

Pool winners advance to QF while 2nd and 3rd placed teams will have to play a "round of 16" match (similar to water polo WCh format).
