intoronto 4,235 Posted November 3, 2016 #2 Share Posted November 3, 2016 Just saw the entry lists for the first world cup and looks like Ireland will be entering two athletes (both are transfers from Canada). Is this the first ever world cup for Ireland?

Yes, we didn't have a speed skating team until this year thanks to the McAnuff brothers. http://www.sherbrookerecord.com/content/mcanuff-brothers-bringing-skating-ireland

Good luck too them! Also I gotta say this has to be the most developed winter sport (in terms of competitive countries). Literally 10-12 countries could win medals on a given day. It's fun how people here in the Netherlands always complain how speed skating (albeit the traditional 400m track version) is so one-sided, when it's one of the few winter sports where 3 medalling continents is a very normal situation and with some luck there can even be 4. If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated!
