Actually, no. Most people are not aware that their location is being used to generate this, even if they have technically consented to it when buying the device. At college we have covered this topic quite thoroughly. The rise of technology has made the whole security thing so irrelevant I bet even the most liberal hard-liners don't believe it's a conspiracy theory anymore.
