MHSN 3,047 Posted February 19, 2020 #11 Share Posted February 19, 2020 2nd day finalists 60: Fumita vs Sharshenbekov 67: Bakhshilloev vs Ryu 72: Kavianinejad vs Magomadov 82: Ebrahimi vs Choi 97: Saravi vs Lee the live stream (and also live scoring system) was terrible today, the stream was off for more than an hour during the QF/SF and when it came back only 2 mats were working. personally I have to adjust my work schedule and shorten my sleeping time to be able to watch the entire session. it feels terrible to do all these things but end up watching almost nothing ! so thanks UWW and thanks the organizers for ruining my day. can't write much about the matches because I missed more than half of them. but with 3 wrestlers in the final and 2 in bronze medal match Iran is guaranteed the team title. (which I know is important for our coaches) I was sure about Kaviani and Saravi, it's good to see a 3rd wrestler in the final as well. 60kg semifinal defeat was a bit disappointing but Mohsennejad isn't just that good. we have world bronze medalist in this weight but 67kg is surely our weakest link. it's really hard for Iran to qualify this weight, Asadi did OK by reaching the semifinal and he wasn't that bad against former World Champion Ryu Han-Su but still not good enough to beat him. I know our coaches tried all possible options in this weight to find a reliable wrestler but I think right now they are probably thinking about making one of those 72kg wrestler to cut weight for this. it will be really hard for Iran to qualify this weight for Tokyo. interesting to see 3 Korean wrestlers in the final, Ryu was expected though. MHSN 3,047 Posted February 19, 2020 #12 Share Posted February 19, 2020 (edited) Iran finished the competition with 5 gold, 1 silver, 3 bronze and of course a doped wrestler ! plus the team title. it wasn't a bad tournament but still some of those defeats were disappointing, and that Hedayat accident overshadowed everything else. half of these guys are not #1 here , almost all Olympic weights except 97kg. almost all of them were 21 or 22 with one or two exceptions. looks like we have a new generation in our Greco program. but most importantly our wrestling federation released a statement regarding Behrouz Hedayat and 87kg semifinal accident. these are important points * he was tested during Takhti Cup (which was indirectly Iranian trials and was held a month ago), they sent the samples to Germany and since coaches were suspicious of this guy they asked the German lab for quick results. * Our coach didn't want to send him to New Delhi but they had to because they had no proof of his guilt and they didn't receive the news from Germany in time. * They received the preliminary results from Cologne only minutes before his semifinal match and told him to lose ! because when you test positive in an international competition your national federation has to pay something as fine. I believe there are some lies here, there was only 40-50 minutes between QF and SF, hard to believe they received the news only in that short period of time ! they claim they told him to lose because it wasn't "fair" for other wrestlers, what about not just participating at all ?! and what about the Uzbek wrestler he beat in the first round ? personally I guess they found out about it in India when it was too late to replace him with someone else, after receiving the draw he had to wrestle Uzbekistan in the first round which was Iran's direct rival for the team title. they let him beat and eliminate the top favorite for the gold medal and then told him to lose, but since he wasn't smart he played it very bad and now everybody knows about it. this is just my guess but that was unfair and unsportsmanship they had to kick this guy out of the team the moment they received the news. Iranian team was good enough to win the team title even with one less wrestler. Edited February 20, 2020 by MHSN nitinsanker
MHSN 3,047 Posted February 20, 2020 #13 Share Posted February 20, 2020 (edited) if UWW works as planned these guys will be seeded for the Asian Qualifiers, of course only if their NOC sends them ! even though I heard some rumors that they don't want to give ranking points to the Asian Champs because some countries were absent, that sounds nonsense to me though and remember if less than 8 wrestlers participate, the whole thing will be different because they will use the round robin (or 2 groups) format. 60kg: #1 Sharshenbekov #2 Walihan #3 Al-Beedhan I'm almost sure KGZ won't send this guy to the AQT, so it will most probably China and Iraq being seeded. if any of them doesn't show up the next seed will be Tajikistan and Thailand ! are already qualified, I think will be huge favorites, didn't send anybody to the Asian Champs but I'm sure they will send a decent wrestler to the AQT. is the next best guy with a distance. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 67kg: #1 Ryu #2 Bakhshilloev #3 Ashu I think both top 2 seeds will participate and will be in two sides of the draw no quota for Asia yet in this weight making it very difficult. I think Ryu Han-Su is the one everybody wants to avoid. is the next favorite behind him, KOR and KAZ being in the same side will be dream draw for everybody else in bottom half. I can put in next places, then it will be not far behind them and again with a little distance. also may surprise as usual with someone unknown. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 77kg: #1 Al-Bidhan #2 Iilaz-Uulu #3 Eid #4 Sajan seeding is kind of funny in this weight, I'm not sure if any of those 4 guys participate, KGZ most probably will send someone else, Iraq and Jordan are weak and they may not participate. India also has another good wrestler in this weight. actually the 4th seed is Japan but it's a sure thing they will send someone else. are already qualified, the biggest name everybody wants to avoid is the Olympic Champion Kim Hyeon-Woo. the next best guy is Yang and then we have and then not far behind. blind draw will play a big role in this weight. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 87kg: #1 Sunil #2 Kustubayev #3 Na I think both top 2 seeds will participate. are already qualified, despite that shameful show in this Asian Champs the main favorite is still I see both top seeds behind him as next best guys. then it's . also with slim chance for ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 97kg: #1 Saravi #2 Lee #3 Shamsiddinov I think it's almost a sure thing both top 2 seeds will participate no quota for Asia yet, I think is the huge favorite, Saravi is the one everybody wants to avoid. then I can some wrestlers almost in the same level and with a little distance ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 130kg: #1 Abdullaev #2 Ramonov #3 Kim top 2 seeds will participate if nothing special happens is already qualified. it will be a close battle between it's really hard for me to separate them is the next best guy and maybe very slim chance for highly possible to see a round robin format in this weight with less than 8 wrestlers registering. Yes Gurpreet is red hot in 77 .... He won gold at the ranking series in Rome and is definitely our best GR wrestler...... Am hoping that he and Sunil can qualify in the qualifiers..... strength does not come from physical capacity but from an indomitable will. - Gandhi
nitinsanker 179 Posted February 20, 2020 #15 Share Posted February 20, 2020 (edited) Hoping for great things from our eves..... I think this is a great team - divya, vinesh, sarita, sonam, anshu, etc ..... Also with china which is definitely a class team not there.... This is a chance for India to shine ...... Hoping for at least 6 medals and a couple of golds Edited February 20, 2020 by nitinsanker strength does not come from physical capacity but from an indomitable will. - Gandhi

I have no idea why India didn't use this guy in this tournament, but I assume he and this kid Sajan are more or less in the same level. actually I'm surprised Sajan didn't medal here. well I wouldn't consider Gurpreet as "definitely your best GR wrestler" he won gold in a non-Olympic weight with mediocre level while Sunil Kumar won silver in an Olympic weight only losing 2-1 to Lorincz and since he also won the gold here (thanks to little help from our doped wrestler by eliminating Assakalov) I would give that title to Sunil Kumar. If you ask me India has a good chance to qualify at 77, 87 and 97. but draw and luck will play a big role here. I mean at 77kg if you get Kim HW in your bracket you are almost already out. India's chance is probably better at 87kg, Sunil will be seeded and he only has to avoid our Taheri to make sure about the qualification. but I believe both for GR and Women's freestyle this is highly possible to have less than 7 wrestlers in some weights and things change into group round format. which is obviously more fair in my opinion. MHSN 3,047 Posted February 20, 2020 #17 Share Posted February 20, 2020 After the first day of women's freestyle, India is leading the team ranking by 11pts over Japan. the Asian team title had never won by any team other than Japan or China. will be interesting if India manages to stay on top for the 2nd day. but looking at the brackets for the 2nd day Japan has some big names for tomorrow. Agree with you sunil is probably the better of the two : last year I think he had a great final in the Asian championship in 2018 against nouri.....very close bout ... Gurpreet though is currently doing better than sajan.... Defeated him handily at the national trials.... I am not sure why gurpreet was not here... strength does not come from physical capacity but from an indomitable will. - Gandhi

Yes this is a great day for Indian wrestling.... Tomorrow is going to be very tough.... The Indian team is good we have vinesh in 53 but she is facing maya from Japan in the first round who has been her nemesis both in the world champs and last year's asians, so it will be tough..... Both anshu and sonam are good but really young and to face the kawai sisters ( world no 2 and 3 respectively) will really test them..... Gurshanpreet will need to do well and sakshi has a good chance to win a gold..... India had a chance to win the team gold I hope they can strength does not come from physical capacity but from an indomitable will. - Gandhi

I am not sure why gurpreet was not here... now you told me this, I think I can tell you why he didn't participate, considering he also participated in Italian tournament at 82kg (and not his own weight class) it seems he has problems making weight for 77kg and prefers to do it only once for the Olympic Qualifiers, cutting weight twice in a period of one month is not a wise idea, that's why some top wrestlers were absent here, for example none of Iranian wrestlers here are planned to wrestle at the AQT except just one who is already underweight for his wight class (97kg) and doesn't need to cut weight. I think the same applies for all other countries. yeah Sunil Kumar is a tough guy in standing position. Nouri had hard time against him, (it was in 2019, not 2018) because Nouri is not a par-terre specialist and he only beat opponents by tiring them down. and obviously it didn't work very well against Sunil. this year Nouri finished 5th in our pre-trials, we most probably will send Ramin Taheri to the AQT but Taheri is more or less the same type of wrestler. so Sunil isn't without a chance against him. I think I prefer them in opposite sides of the draw in AQT nitinsanker
