heywoodu 13,499 Posted February 1, 2020 #42 Share Posted February 1, 2020 Refresh my mind please, what was Sharapova always accused of? If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated! Yes, we need to have that in the thread or else we might think this is the Tennis FEI Australian Open and we expect people to jump over the nets on horses with a tennis racket in their hands. Ah, the strictly forced rules of Totallympics thread names, gotta love it. Spoiler Or not. Sharapova was always accused of not being a real Russian and basically an American. Anastasia Myskina and Elena Dementieva were in particular against her and Myskina flat out refused to play in the Russian Fed Cup team if Sharapova was selected as well. As it turned out Sharapova didn't make her Russian Fed Cup debut until 2008, basically the year after Myskina was forced to retire due to a persistent ankle injury. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/tennis/4040243.stm https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2005/oct/06/tennis.sport21 Evgeniy Kafelnikov also went on a Sharapova rampage but he blasted everyone. https://www.tennis365.com/tennis-news/kafelnikov-blasts-federer-nadal-djokovic-sharapova/ thepharoah

Monzanator 3,569 Posted February 2, 2020 #48 Share Posted February 2, 2020 JImenez Kasintseva was the youngest player in the draw. She will turn 15yo in August though she is older than Cori Gauff when the American won the French Open juniors in 2018. Still it's basically two years older than Martina Hingis who won 1993 French Open aged 12 and 8 months
