For Feryal she wants to qualify directly to avoid competition with Shaymaa abouelyazid at 1st because the last might qualify from world qualifications ?

yes that's a valid reason, but for some reasons I prefer she doesn't qualify directly

this qualification format is too complicated, you have to consider so many things , for example I hope Iran qualify 2 girls directly and Alipour wins the Asian quota. but then it's only possible if nobody from Africa uses 61kg quota. there is a girl from Morocco on 11th place position. and I hope Egyptian girls at 55kg and +61kg stay ahead of her in the ranking :d which means I hope they collect points but not "lots of points" to qualify directly   I still hope Feryal wins the final because that Chinese girl is also a candidate for the Asian spot. :d

and btw as you said even if Feryal stays 5th or 6th, that's still possible if Shaymaa qualifies directly in Paris . so I guess I should count more on your 50kg girl but then you also have Yassmin Attia in this weight and she is also capable of qualifying in Paris. :d

only 3 silvers from 3 finalists

The last one at +68kg was kind of weird, she was sitting on 3 cautions (Hansoku Chui) and made a terrible mistake asked her coach to challenge a decision, and that's illegal and she received her 4th caution and lost by disqualification !!

it seems the Olympic dream for Sajjad Ganjzadeh is gone :( Poursheib won the gold after a great comeback. he was down 1-4 but finished it 7-4, that "Ashi Barai" at the end of the match was wow :hyper: Zabih is now leading by something like 500pts and I don't see him not collecting enough points in remaining events. the level in 84kg is just not as good as +84kg.

Edit: in WKF new ranking they still show Ganjzadeh in green and not Poursheib (despite having more points), I assume that's because Ganjzadeh is #1 in his weight class.

  • 2 weeks later...

quick review about what happened in 1st day of Austrian K1 event regarding Olympic qualification

Women's Kata

I think the qualification is done, we know the name of 4 qualified athletes here, :HKG Grace Lau  and :USA Sakura Kokumai joined :ESP and :ITA

Women's 50kg

only 3 athletes are left to grab the last quota and join :TUR it will be between Bahmanyar, Plank and Hubrich. despite poor result here Bahmanyar still has a much better chance.

Women's 55kg

it's not over yet for Jana Messerschmidt, she is in the final and if she wins the gold she will be closer to Wen (TPE) , Wen herself will fight for bronze. :UKR was already qualified before the event.

Men's 60kg

we knew :KAZ is already qualified, it was between Creszezo and Samdan and the Italian beat the Turk in the SF. which means he will have something 1000pts advantage before the last 2 events.

Men's 67kg

:FRA was already qualified, Figueira had a good chance to seal the deal today but lost to some random guy from Austria. the Egyptian El-Sawy is now in bronze medal match he will close the gap to something like 300/400 before the last event for both of them.

Men's 75kg

despite not making to the final. both :ITA Luigi Busa  and :AZE Rafael Aghayev  are guaranteed an Olympic quota to join :IRI. the last quota will be between Horuna and Scott (with slim chance for Eltemur). Horuna made it to the final today to increase his chance massively
