phelps 6,805 Posted November 24, 2019 Author #63 Share Posted November 24, 2019 (edited) interesting results for the men's epee in terms of Olympic qualification... France are still on top and they will stay on top also at the end of today's event...moreover, they're going to increase their margin over their opponents, as they are already qualified to today's Gold Medal match... Italy, who are France's opponents in today's Final, are the biggest climbers of the week, jumping from 7th to a sure top 4 place at the end of the day... on the other side, Russia are the biggest losers, as they are scheduled to play for 13th or 14th place today and they will go down in the ranking from 4th to 7th (but they would still keep a qualifying spot as the best European team outside the top 4, as those teams are all from Europe)... here are the current projected rankings, before today's finals... France 255/267 Switzerland 200/202 Ukraine 187/191 Italy 188/200 China 174/176 South Korea 170/172 Russia 165/166 Japan 156/162 Hungary 140/141 United States 138/139 Kazakhstan 127/128 Denmark 122/123 ... Egypt 95/96 (still safe in the top 16) Edited November 24, 2019 by phelps Benolympique
phelps 6,805 Posted November 24, 2019 Author #64 Share Posted November 24, 2019 c'mon! I didn't think it was possible to make a robbery in Epee...but today that's what happened! France robbed Italy of a well deserved win in today's final match in Bern... frankly, I'm disgusted!

Egypt 95/96 (still safe in the top 16) updated after the end of the tournament... things are getting really hot for the Asian Continental spot, especially if neither CHN and/or KOR could eventually sneak in into the top 4 of the overall OQR... Germany 120 13. Canada 11714. Tunisia 107 (Q as the best African team outside the top 4 overall) 15. Turkey 105 16. Azerbaijan 99 17. Venezuela 94 as Italy are only a bunch of chokers, despite the 29 point-margin they still have over Hungary, there's a good chance we're going to have some dramatic final events for what concerns the European continental spot, with Ukraine and Hungary probably taking over Italy before the end of the race... at that point, our only hope to qualify to the Games is the unsportsmanlike hope that Tunisia drop out of the top 16, which is actually quite possible, as TUR, AZE and VEN, if they are going to start all the remaining competitions, have very good chances to sum up a loto more points than TUN and eventually end up in front of them... we'll see... phelps 6,805 Posted November 24, 2019 Author #67 Share Posted November 24, 2019 finally, some projected scores in women's team Foil before the finals are contested... 1. Russia 308/320 2. Italy 236/248 3. United States 216/220 4. France 212/216 5. Japan 182/183 6. Canada 172/174 7. South Korea 154/155 8. Poland 138/139 9. China 136/138 10. Germany 135/137 11. Hungary 135/137 12. Hong Kong 120/121 13. Ukraine 111/112 14. Spain 107/10815. Egypt 76 15. Singapore 76 17. Chinese Taipei 74/75 18. Austria 73 19. Brazil 72 xx. Romania 57/58 not much to say in this case...the only big question is: "will at the end of race Egypt still be among the top 16?"... my guess is "no", which means that probably we're going to see 1 more good team (KOR rather than another European one) among the Olympic participants instead of the very weak Egyptians... mrv86

Romania 58 as written before, the real fight is Egypt's to stay within the top 16, which imho is unlikely...with 3 WC stages still to go, should they participate, all the 5 more dangerous followers could easily make up the current deficit from the African champions... meanwhile the battle for the European Continental spot is really hottin'up: POL, GER and HUN are really close and 2 of them would eventually have to watch the Games on TV (even if Egypt fail to qualify and open the race for a reallocation spot, KOR are heavily favourite to grab it, I don't see the European teams taking over the Koreans)...
