In football  volleyball handball they qualify via Asia not Oceania.

Oceania rugby7s is probably the strongest continent.

 

I was alluding to the whole programme of sports, not just the team sports.

because someone at the FIBA headquarters got heavily drunk before developing the Olympic qualifications' format...:hairpull::facepalm:

 

you know...in the French speaking part of Switzerland (where the FIBA HQ are located), absinthe is legal...you can easily find places where they sell it...it's not even expensive (for Swiss standards)...

Because this qualification system was designed to increase the number of “meaningful” international games for each teams that will compete at the Olympics. Apparently this was a request of the national federations themselves.
