Great performance by Seitz in all-around and uneven bars, given that she had a far from perfect preparation. She should have secured a spot in both finals with her score. Also a pretty nice score for Voss on balance beam, but probably not enough for the final. The german team did a solid job considering that Alt and Scheder are missing and with both of them the german team probably could have scored 3 or 4 points more.

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

You need to be one of the top 3 eligible* gymnasts in an apparatus final to qualify, a medal is not required.

* so not counting those already qualified with their team or thanks to the all-around.

South Korea's best all-arounder is Lee Yun-seo. Shocking result. This means that Yeo Seo-jeong absolutely has to win a medal on vault, or else she will not qualify.

She only needs to make the final and be in the top 3 from countries that didn’t qualify a team. She’s fine.

This qualification system is so confusing that I am completely lost.

Can a country qualify two gymnasts, one through the all-around competition and one through the event finals? I thought that each nation could either have a full team, or one gymnast.

it's a team or an all rounder

The apparatus qualifiers are effectively separate so yes, a nation a can qualify one all rounder and a specialist or even a team and a specialist

(up to 2 specialists)
