ofan 237 Posted July 20, 2019 #11 Share Posted July 20, 2019 Correct me if I'm wrong, but the quota from this event will likely be the third place finisher, correct? Brazil and the United States will end up maxing out their two quotas in each event from the World Surf League standings in all likelihood.

Except that Brazil surfers are not really great, and athletes from other nations will challenge USA here. I guess Argentina, Canada and Peru might have a chance to get a quota. ofan
bmo 180 Posted July 21, 2019 #13 Share Posted July 21, 2019 Alright thank you for clarification!!! I just want to know which events to follow closer for Olympic qualification at Lima.

It's probably in order of importance regarding the qualification events. #1 and #2 seeds from the Men's event were on the podium at the last ISA World Games (argentine athlete was the champion, and the peruvian was third). Same for the Women's where the american #1 seed was the best from the Americas at that event. ofan

phelps 6,854 Posted July 21, 2019 #17 Share Posted July 21, 2019 my picks (not that I'm a real expert, tbh)... Santiago Muniz, Lucca Mesinas and Jhony Corzo should be the top male specialists (but surprising results from a few other competitiors are not to be excluded -I don't know anything about the race course, which could be a factor)... among the women, instead, it should be a Brisa Hennessy one-woman show... and in terms of Olympic qualification, since I think Hennessy would eventually qualify through the WSL (as surely will do the American girls), I'd keep an eye especially on Bethany Zelasko and Daniela Rosas... LDOG 2,199 Posted July 21, 2019 #18 Share Posted July 21, 2019 Muñiz has been out of surfing for like 6 months (He had some psychological issue, I don't understand well). He came back recently in one competition but very out of shape. I'm not expecting anything from him here.

phelps 6,854 Posted July 26, 2019 #20 Share Posted July 26, 2019 no Brisa Hennessy...the women's competition (and the fight for the Olympic quota) becomes interesting...
