Fiji's Vijay Singh has withdrawn from the Olympics. Also listed in the article of having previously withdrawn is Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez (though he is currently an alternative).

Hopefully this won't gain too much traction or golf's future in the Olympics will be dire.

Is Vijay Singh still a big name in golf? I mean, I know he was good, but nowadays when I happen to come across results he's always way, way back..

In other words, it's not like he will be missed by the average viewer, right?

Or you mean that it could be the start of a bunch of bigger names withdrawing? That would indeed be bad..

Damn, I was kinda excited for more quotas to Fiji

About Miguel Angel Jimenez pulling out, I'm actually happy, never liked him.

In terms of the quality not much will be changed, he's barely in a qualification position. My concern is that there are a lot of golfers on the fence about going and if more people start withdrawing they may be inclined to do so as well.

Really bad news for Olympic golf.... He and Jason Day would made a very strong "team" for Australia..

it's a shame have an Olympic Sport where its best athletes don't want to take part on it
