For some reason I’ve got a winter sports kick this week, so I’ve been looking forward into these games again. Ice Hockey qualification is kind of known now. The way it works is that :SUI gets a team in both genders. Then the top 10 teams in the youth world ranking get to choose whether they send a boys team or a girls team. Both tournaments will feature 6 teams. If the top 5 in the world ranking all choose to send a boys team, then the other countries can only send a girls team (should they choose to participate). At the end of the qualification period, the rankings were as the following:

1. :USA

2. :SWE

3. :CAN

4. :RUS

5. :FIN

6. :CZE

7. Thrown out (host country) (already given quotas)

8. :SVK

9. :GER

10. :JPN

11. :DEN

First in line for reallocation should any of the top 10 not choose to send a team:

12. :FRA

13. :NOR

14. :AUT

15. :HUN

@intoronto Since you generally seem to be in the know, any idea if Canada has selected a boys or girls hockey team? They can only send one.

@hckosice I hope that :ECU just hasn’t confirmed their quota yet, and that they haven’t rejected it already.

@heywoodu Brazil ended up earning 4 Cross Country Skiing quotas. Very cool to see them so well represented.
