she's not 14 yet, her birthday is later in the year...

and I know this is not an Olympic event...however, yesterday she swam 1.08.7 in the 100m Breastroke...

I'm not even expecting her to be a medal contender already next year in the Olympic distance, but just being already this year among the top specialists in the sprint distance is not an ordinary performance (and as I wrote before, it's very rare for an Italian athlete...Pellegrini was the last sub-18 global medal winner for Italy in swimming in 2004, just to make a comparison)...

1) How can she be 13 when her birthday is January 18th 2005?

2) There are tons of athletes who are specialists in the 50 and completely hopeless in the 100, for example Conceicao, Medeiros, Johannson, Proud, Fratus, Govorov or Santos. It is in no way certain that she will ever become competitive in the 100 breast.

1) because I read 18/11/2005 instead of 18/1/2005...

2) too early to know what kind of swimmers she's going to become...we can only wait and see...

p.s. more in general, at that age you're still in time to develop your skills...nobody can be considered hopeless when he/she's so young...obviously, if you work only as a sprinter for all of your best years, then you are hopeless when you try to do anything else...but with proper training at the right time, you can always change your perspective...

2) Thats what i mean, its too early to tell if she is a serious talent in the 100 breast. She is worldclass in the 50 breast already, but we dont know right now how much talent she has for the 100 breast. We also have to remember that Meilutyte became olympic champion when she was less than a year older than Pilato is now.

Nice, first race and already a medal for Kotryna Teterevkova. Quite surprised that she did it in the 50m breaststroke. I've regarded her best chances to be 100m and 200m breaststroke, since 50m is the discipline where Šeleikaitė (our second best breaststroker after Teterevkova, now that Meilutytė is retired) always beat her, so this silver is a bit unexpected.

If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated! Full story and how to help can be found here!
