Federer91 2,114 Posted January 6, 2019 #32 Share Posted January 6, 2019 Kobayashi is a real mystery for me. In the beginning of the season i thought he just had a string of good jumps and his form will disappear in a few rounds like every prior japanese jumper. But the guy just keeps winning. And the 4-Hills, once the hardest event to win, he just breezed through. Or maybe, this is the weakest ski-jumping season i have watched. When i look at the final 4-Hills and the overall World Cup standings, it's like there are no stars anymore. As if the big names from the last 4-5 years have all disappeared and the mediocre jumpers are now picking up the pieces..

If the Kobayashi's of today start falling behind one day, we will be like "there are no more stars like Kobayashi anymore" It's the sports version of "everything was better in earlier years". Col_Frost 1 If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated! True. 17 years ago it seemed impossible to have someone repeating Sven's record and now we have that achievement 2 times in a row.
Monzanator 3,569 Posted January 6, 2019 #35 Share Posted January 6, 2019 (edited) Kobayashi actually uses much longer skis than usual while in years past it's been a case of making the skis shorter. Maybe the BMI tweak helped him? The jumpers had to gain ca. 2 kg before the season IIRC. And Polish media report his change of technique where he doesn't lean so much forward like basically all the Japanese did to mirror Funaki's style.
