What are your favourite piece/s of classical music? I have a long list of pieces of classical music I love. I will probably make a top 12 or maybe a top 20 one day. But as it is almost New Year's Eve here in Denmark, why not end the year with a piece of music many people here in Denmark associate with New Year. Brings back some good memories from Watchmen Some of my personal favorites are: Rhapsody In Blue O Fortuna In the Hall of the Mountain King Ride of the Valkyries Flight of the Bumblebee Habenera Moonlight Sonata Bolero (I practice every single public speech I do to this song) (pro tip ) The Flower Duet Waltz of the Flowers Swan Lake Clair De Lune Lacrimosa Beethoven’s 5th Dance of the Knights (One of my favorite songs of all-time. It’s generally associated with the October Revolution and USSR in US popular culture) Wumo 1 “Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. dcro 10,172 Posted December 31, 2019 #612 Share Posted December 31, 2019 My favorite is George Gershwin (surprise, surprise... ). If you can count him under classical classical music though. #banbestmen

Agger 1,576 Posted December 31, 2019 #614 Share Posted December 31, 2019 Well. Another piece of music for the New Year. For me the poem Ring out, Wild Bells, is a major part of the New Year celebration. For my family the last thing before the bells ring is watching the New Year celebrations from Skansen in Stockholm, which ends with a Swedish translation of the poem (usually timed to perfection). I haven't watched it live the last years, but the poem is still magnificent and for me, this is the best musical rendition (though there are some great, more classical choral renditions as well):

Vojthas 947 Posted January 1, 2020 #618 Share Posted January 1, 2020 According to the tradition Polish Music TV Channel Stars.tv finished the year with "The Final Countdown" by Europe and started a new one with a "Happy New Year" by ABBA (yeah, another ABBA divorce song used in totally different context after very well known in sports "The Winner Takes It All"). Now it's TOP 100 Euro Disco Hits. Seems to be going until morning. So many of Modern Talking, C.C. Catch, Sandra, Savage, Bad Boys Blue and so on... And then 11:15 transition to Wiener Philharmoniker Neujahrskonzert...

Olympian1010 7,418 Posted January 7, 2020 #620 Share Posted January 7, 2020 Just found this gem thanks to “The Two Popes”. What a beautiful song, and I like this version where it’s been mixed with “Walls”, the main score from “The Two Popes”: “Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. Sport can create hope where once there was only despair” - Nelson Mandela
