It's (or at least it should be) same important as any other event. It's not more dangerous than javelin. Maybe you remember how Pitkamaeki hit long jumper during Golden League meeting in Rome? So what, we should make every throws outside the competition now? Maybe let's organize them without audience, coaches, referees and more than one competitor. Than it'll be 100% safe. And remind me please, at what meeting warm up is in the center of the stadium? Or maybe you assumed that hammer can fly to place where 100m start is (or to warm up arena)? Safe is very important but it also not very hard to ensure. Get very good net and make sure that no one will be in throw area, that's it. And you don't have move this event hours before any other.

No, no it’s nothing like. All the events are still held on one day in most university and high school meets. So if hammer of javelin is being thrown the schedule goes like this. Hammer (w) at 09:00, Hammer (m) at 10:30, Javelin (w) at 12:00, Distance races from 13:00 - 15:30, Javelin (m) at 14:00, sprints from 16:00 to conclusion. The meets flow nicely and make for a great day of athletics. Plus, we avoid the big chances of major injury. Athletics is then enjoyable, safe, and fun for everyone involved.

I'm still not sure whether or not this is sarcastic. As a fan of sports, it shouldn't be, but I'm not sure.

I’m not sure what you mean. I was saying that in Poland hammer throw is popular and more well regarded. In the US, hammer is often forgotten about and not shown much. Personally, I think hammers cool as hell, and as important as any other the event.

Some news about next year's Diamond League

Source: IAAF (https://www.iaaf.org/competitions/iaaf-diamond-league/news/diamond-league-2020-season-meetings)

"The Diamond League General Assembly has today agreed on 14 meetings and 1 final for the 2020 season, which includes all current meetings.

Gateshead will replace Birmingham as a venue, as Birmingham’s stadium is being redeveloped for the 2022 Commonwealth Games so is not available to host the IAAF Diamond League, and there will be a second Diamond League meeting in China. The dates for the Diamond League meetings in 2020 are listed below.

A discussion was held on the disciplines to be included in the 90-minute international broadcast window with a review of the fan, athlete and broadcast research.

Further work is being undertaken on whether each meeting is able to host 11 or 12 Diamond League disciplines in the set time frame and which events each meeting will host outside the 90-minute broadcast window. A final decision on the disciplines will be made at the beginning of November 2019.

The IAAF will also launch a second international series of one-day meetings in 2020 (entitled the World Athletics Continental Tour), which will provide world-class competition, top flight world ranking points and earning opportunities for many more athletes, with a focus on those disciplines not featuring regularly in the Diamond League, and which will be broadcast around the world.

The world rankings system will be structured so that athletes in every discipline will earn the same level of points at their highest available one-day meeting series, whether that is in the Diamond League or the new tour".

The dates for the Diamond League meetings in 2020 are:
Doha - 17 April
China (venue to be advised) - 10 May
Shanghai - 16 May
Stockholm - 24 May
Rome - 28 May
Rabat - 31 May
Eugene - 7 June
Oslo - 11 June
Paris - 13 June
London - 4 July
Monaco - 10 July
Gateshead - 16 August
Lausanne - 20 August
Brussels - 4 September
Zurich - 11 September

This doesn't look good at all. Of course we already knew about the insanely stupid 90 minutes, which is only going to make the chance smaller of keeping the disciplines. No more 5k which makes absolutely zero sense, guessing the triple jump will be cut away as well because godknowswhy.

Discus throw could also likely be cut from Diamond League. Daniel Ståhl is obviously quite frustrated about this. Besides, his current coach, who has been a big part of Ståhl's progress, has said he will retire from athletics if discus throw is cut from Diamond League. The main reason is that the overall prize money in discus will go down if it is no longer part of Diamond League and his coach will likely have to spend more of his own money traveling with Ståhl.

Welcome to the life of hammer throwers and, soon, triple jumpers.

Triple jump is 3 (!!) jumps. You can't expect modern audience to have such long attention span.

If you actually do three jumps during an attempt, you get a red flag
