We used up the permitted amount of emoticons in the first post of the thread (only 75 is permitted per post :d). Which is weird because I think there is currently 97 flags there :p

The maximum is 75 but if you copy-paste flags from other posts there is no limit ;) Which is good because I can't change the maximum of 75 :d

Remember that "Lambada" song from the late 80s? well, it's actually a cover (some would say plagiarized) from this bolivian folklore song from 1981.

This is interesting. The lyrics are very similar in Spanish and Portuguese, so this is mostly an adaptation. Of course, if the original creators were not informed about the adaptation this is copyright infringement, but I have no idea about whether they did know or not. As a side note, unfortunately the singer of the song Lambada was murdered in a shocking and utterly cruel crime last year. May her rest in peace.

The story is very curious. This bolivian band made the song in 1981, then a peruvian band made a cover in 1984, then an artist named Marcia Ferreira made an adaptation of the peruvian version in 1986, then finally Kaoma made their famous version in 1988.

The song got progressively more upbeat with each version.

The bolivian band apparently only sued the producers of the lambada version (likely because they saw the fame the song took) and it seems they won the case after many years. No idea what settlement was reached though.

I think "Chorando se foi quem um dia só me fez chorar" is one of the very first bits of Portuguese I ever learned :d Closely followed by:

Quote

Olha que coisa mais linda
Mais cheia de graça
É ela menina
Que vem e que passa
No doce balanço, a caminho do mar

Followed by 'E ninguem cala' by the fans of Botafogo which became my favourite team :cheer:

Spoiler

And then next is a bunch of songs from Ivete Sangalo who for a while I really liked way too much at the time I was introduced to Brazilian music :p

If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated! Full story and how to help can be found here!
