Some news: Richie Porte has had intestinal problems, this time his trouble starts even before day 1. Jon Aberasturi has hurt his knee yesterday, so he might be out of contention for the first few days.

There was a preview in a Dutch newspaper today (more like a column), where the writer was trying to find the winner of the Vuelta....which turned out to be quite a challenge :p

Vincenzo Nibali won't win, the Shark was laying on the floor with a broken fin only a few weeks ago and it's a miracle he's even at the start.

The chance that Richie Porte stays healthily on his bike for three weeks is equal to the chance of 1 Night in Paris winning an Oscar.

If you believe Alejandro Valverde can win a Grand Tour aged 58, you're not in your right mind.

Of course Alejandro Valverde believes he can, which means teammate Nairo Quintana can put his dreams out of his mind as well.

Simon Yates is at the start, but so is his brother Adam, so this time they can't make a daily switch and ride the GT as one person anymore.

Ilnur Zakarin descends like your grandma in her old Honda Civic.

Thibaut Pinot descends even slower than that.

Fabio Aru doesn't just look like Borat anymore, he rides like Borat too nowadays.

Wilco Kelderman? See Richie Porte.

George Bennett is too small.

Enric Mas is too young.

Emanuel Buchmann is too German.

Miguel Angel Lopez loses one and a half hour in the individual time trial.

Bauke Mollema isn't even riding for the GC, although his team doesn't know that yet.

Louis Meintjes attacks too little.

Dan Martin attacks too much.

Don't even dare thinking about Steven Kruijswijk or you'll jinx him right into a snow wall.

Rigoberto Uran...how?

The conclusion: "I was doubting between Jetse Bol and Amanuel Gebreigzabhier, but if I really have to name someone, I'm going for Chris Froome. No, apparently he won't start. But that's what they said days before the Tour de France."

What does "too german" even mean? His goal is to finish top 10, seems doable to me. Would be nice if Buchmann or Schachmann would develop into serious top 10 contenders at the Tour.

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

Just as serious as Lopez losing 1:30 hours in an ITT.

Joined for the first time in about an hour and Van Baarle is still the leader. Incredible how seemingly every GT time trial always has early leader for hours...

Mostly when it's a prologue/first stage, because the riders are spread a lot throughout the entire start list :p

And several time trial specialists are really not good climbers at all, so they are way down in the GC, so they are long leaders in a time trial somewhere in the middle of a GT :d

Don't know who Lopez is (isn't there a race walker with the same name?), so can't judge how realistic it is for him to lose that much ... (of course it depends on how long the time trial is, you said nothing about the distance after all ...) :p
