heywoodu 13,540 Posted August 23, 2018 #11 Share Posted August 23, 2018 Vuelta a España Pick'em Game - The Rules 1. Choose one unique rider for every stage, the deadline for the choice being the official start time of said stage - choosing more than one day ahead is of course no problem, for example if you know you'll be offline for some days or you just want to avoid forgetting to choose a rider. 2. To avoid problems with the possibility of edits after the stage started, do not edit posts in which you place your picks in any way after posting. If you want to make any change to your pick (fixing typo's, different rider etc), quote the post and post your list with the change 3. The position in which the rider finishes the stage is the number of points you get for that stage 4. The player with the lowest total number of points after the Vuelta wins the game 5. Everyone keeps track of their own scores. This is done publicly and while posting your new pick for the next day, so everyone can check your score if they want to do so. 6. The worst result of every player (so their highest points score) is scratched at the end of the Vuelta, leaving room for one 'save' in the case of a fall, DNF or other unfortunate incidents. 7. If your rider doesn't start or finish, the number of points you get for that stage is equal to the number of riders who finished that stage. 8. Rule 7 also counts if you choose a rider who you have already chosen before, since you can only choose every rider once and so you will need to have chosen a total of 21 different riders when the Vuelta has finished. 9. In case of a tie after the last stage, the winner is the one with the most 1st places, followed by 2nd places, and so on. 10. Just to avoid discussions, be clear on the names of riders, preferably simply write their full name or at least their first and last name ('Alberto Contador Velasco' is ok, but just 'Alberto Contador' is ok too). I suggest we all use the same format to keep it easy, for example like this: Username 1. Rider (points for this stage) - total points after this stage For example after three stages a list could look like this: heywoodu 1. Lars Boom (165) - 165 2. Peter Sagan (1) - 166 3. Michal Kwiatkowski (20) - 186 4. Jacques Anquetil Any questions? If not, I'd like to start with my pick for Saturday's prologue, where the first rider starts at 17.26 CET (and so that's the deadline and not one minute later) heywoodu 1. Michal Kwiatkowski Gianlu33 1 If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated! heywoodu 13,540 Posted August 24, 2018 #16 Share Posted August 24, 2018 There was a preview in a Dutch newspaper today (more like a column), where the writer was trying to find the winner of the Vuelta....which turned out to be quite a challenge Vincenzo Nibali won't win, the Shark was laying on the floor with a broken fin only a few weeks ago and it's a miracle he's even at the start. The chance that Richie Porte stays healthily on his bike for three weeks is equal to the chance of 1 Night in Paris winning an Oscar. If you believe Alejandro Valverde can win a Grand Tour aged 58, you're not in your right mind. Of course Alejandro Valverde believes he can, which means teammate Nairo Quintana can put his dreams out of his mind as well. Simon Yates is at the start, but so is his brother Adam, so this time they can't make a daily switch and ride the GT as one person anymore. Ilnur Zakarin descends like your grandma in her old Honda Civic. Thibaut Pinot descends even slower than that. Fabio Aru doesn't just look like Borat anymore, he rides like Borat too nowadays. Wilco Kelderman? See Richie Porte. George Bennett is too small. Enric Mas is too young. Emanuel Buchmann is too German. Miguel Angel Lopez loses one and a half hour in the individual time trial. Bauke Mollema isn't even riding for the GC, although his team doesn't know that yet. Louis Meintjes attacks too little. Dan Martin attacks too much. Don't even dare thinking about Steven Kruijswijk or you'll jinx him right into a snow wall. Rigoberto Uran...how? The conclusion: "I was doubting between Jetse Bol and Amanuel Gebreigzabhier, but if I really have to name someone, I'm going for Chris Froome. No, apparently he won't start. But that's what they said days before the Tour de France." Federer91 2,134 Posted August 24, 2018 #17 Share Posted August 24, 2018 At first, i thought the nature of the game would be, that you had to pick the position the rider will finish in the stage. And you get points for the difference between your pick and the actual finish.

Nope, nothing complicated like that It's almost impossible to make it easier in terms of points and standings If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated!
