dcro 10,179 Posted August 31, 2018 #13 Share Posted August 31, 2018 Japan denying both quotas would be incredibly anticlimactic... #banbestmen
Benolympique 1,618 Posted August 31, 2018 #14 Share Posted August 31, 2018 so if i understood correctly, no quotas for women in Asia ?, there will be 1 tournament or 3 tournaments in 3 different countries?

LDOG 2,199 Posted August 31, 2018 #16 Share Posted August 31, 2018 So, 7 places for qualification play-offs now. Possibly 8 if South Africa gives up african quota (no african nation ranked in top 20 after them). Excluding the top ranked nations from each continent we would have this for the draw of play-offs (assuming all these nations don't fail to advance at hockey series): Pot 1 Pot 2 ( ) Pot 3 Pot 4 Pot 1 teams can only draw pot 4 teams and pot 2 only pot 3. If South Africa gives up african quota China and Italy go a tier up and one more team is allowed in (because there would be 8 quotas).

The 8th quota would just go to the highest ranked non-qualified nation, there won't be 8 play-off matches.
Dolby 712 Posted August 31, 2018 #18 Share Posted August 31, 2018 No. All quota places go to playoff matches. Playoff spots go to highest ranked non qualified nation.

This document is a bit ambiguous: http://www.fih.ch/media/8997773/180406-ioc-approved-qualification-system.pdf In the reallocation section, my interpretation is that any declined continental quota (when there isn't top 20 runner up in the continent) is reallocated to qualification play-offs (therefore rising their number of matches by 1) and then if a team that qualifies through play-offs declines the quota they won in them, only then the highest ranked non-qualified team gets the spot automatically. LDOG 2,199 Posted August 31, 2018 #20 Share Posted August 31, 2018 So, to sum up: Decline continental quota ---> quota adds to play-offs Decline play-off quota ---> quota is given to highest ranked non-qualified
