When they did the roll at the start of the opening day of the Congress yesterday morning, there were 135 countries from a total of 203 Member Federations present. But, by the evening, when Gafur Rakhimov failed to gain enough votes to get through that proposal about being able to step aside as President for a year and still effectively retain power, there were only 102 delegates.

Several countries were outside in the lobby the time drinking coffee while a few more were in the bar of the hotel.

This is just asking for problems with that hall full of simpletons.

Schmid is now reminding delegates that they must put a cross against the name of only one candidate. "If you put two crosses then your vote will not be counted," he tells them.

Gafur Rakhimov gives presentation as election for AIBA President begins

Schmid has now invited the two candidates to make a short five-minute presentation before the voting begins.

AIBA Interim President Gafur Rakhimov is the first to take he podium.

He is talking in Russia and there is only translation for delegates in the Congress hall so I have no idea what he is saying, but there are lots of mentions of "Olympism".

Apparently he doesn't even speak English? Why on earth would he otherwise give his final speech in Russian?

Because he only needs to convince a few Central Asian countries who are possibly thinking about Konakbayev? :p
