No need to forget that after all it was invented in Soviet Union and Russians might had known about it's doping abilities all that time and just happily used it. We will see how many more cases there is going to be knowing that this drug is extremely common in Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and Middle Asia. I read in an article that 2,2 % of all tests where they tested for meldonium last year were positive. Pretty worrying.
opruh 125 Posted March 9, 2016 #24 Share Posted March 9, 2016 Looks like meldonium is quite a popular illegal substance for the Russians, I wonder what it's counterpart is in other powerhouse countries.
Pavlo 65 Posted March 9, 2016 #25 Share Posted March 9, 2016 Meldonium used according to description is a medicament....only for short period of time. Telling us that Sharapova was using it for 10 years indicates...she has severe heart problems and she certainly didn`t use it as a "cure" ;). Total bullshit by her and other Russian athletes. Even people with real heart problems take it in short periods approved by doctors :), used longer it`s not a medicament any longer and Sharapova managed well as for long-time serious heart-problems person :), amazingly well I fell in love with sports.....since i first seen it
dareza 911 Posted March 9, 2016 #26 Share Posted March 9, 2016 (edited) new case. this is also big case. Davit Modzmanashvili (silver medalist from London 2012) also used meldonium. Bearas 364 Posted March 9, 2016 #27 Share Posted March 9, 2016 Hopefully Lithuania will stay away from the list. After all Lithuanian Anti-doping Agency was keen on informing athletes and federation about meldonium being banned substance in sports in media and antidoping apps that athletes use. Sadly this drug is widely sold in Lithuanian pharmacies, but differently from other countries - Lithuanian Health Organization placed this drug as prescripted, so it was not so easy to get it, unless you really had health problems. Well RUSADA apparently notified athletes as well...that didn't help much If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated! juddy96 171 Posted March 9, 2016 #29 Share Posted March 9, 2016 I wonder if one of the other Georgians who tested positive is Geno Petriashvili, the young talent who had his 2014 world junior gold stripped for failing a test.
