  1. If those far right votes end up with Erdogan, won’t he hold on to power (assuming the gap stays consistent with the results shown, among other factors)?
  2. Is it still common to DQ people for Covid in Europe? It might be happening here in the US too, but I haven’t heard anyone mention it for a while now.
  3. I don’t really feel like those are either Maybe most clout, or best studio financing. They tend to reward the popular and radio friendly (and English), more than the technically brilliant (in my opinion).
  4. Yeah, that definitely isn’t it. The jury votes seem less objective to me than the public. They almost always go for neighbors, geopolitical allies, or language cousins. I feel like they’ve been an annual nuisance since I started following the contest in 2019.
  5. Botteger is still nursing an arm injury from the world championships I believe, so extra impressive for him to make the podium.
  6. @intoronto any word on canoe sprint quotas from the U23 Pan American Championships in Chile?
  7. EBU hasn’t released statistics on the Rest of the World, but people in different online communities have done the math. are the biggest differences from the overall European vote. got third in the first semifinal, but failed to qualify due to lower scores from the European public. got third in the final. This may be due to an active diaspora vote, but I don’t know enough about voting trends to be certain. got two (2) of their (5) points in the televote from the rest of the world (Portugal gave them the other three.) was apparently the winner of the Rest of the World vote in the final. (2nd), (4th), (5th) are supposedly the rest of the top five.
  8. was so close EDIT: The song faired much better outside of Europe. The Rest of the World vote had it third in the first semifinal.
  9. I’m interested to see how the “Rest of the World” voted compared to Europe. Did win big there as well, or did another country capture the top spot. My family was rather split on opinions of
  10. Have you ever seen Totallympics members happy?
  11. It’s funny people think that is “Spanish” music. It’s certainly Latin American (and I’d have no complaints if they go that way), but this year’s entry is more true to traditional Spanish music.
  12. Just shows music industry professionals aren’t the best judges of music.
  13. I don’t know if it is… People keep saying it sounds Arabic, and it’s not like Europeans on the best terms with that region. Europe is a continent defined by cultural homogeneity (whether it be clashes over differences, or bonding over similarities), so it’s not shocking “foreign” sounding entries struggle to garner votes (Albania and Spain as good examples).
  14. just needs to enter Duncan Lawrence to win. The juries will vote for their buddy.
  15. Mix of boos and cheers. Half the continent is happy, the other is livid with the juries.
  16. Europeans have garbage taste. My family is convinced xenophobia is responsible for
  17. The arena is livid about getting a massive lead over
  18. Hatari is one of the greatest thing to come out of Eurovision
  19. Honestly, it’s a fine song. It’s the just embodiment of everything I despise about the entertainment industry
  20. winning just because she’s a former winner with a large following and industry connections is so annoying. I was more okay with winning last year. At least I understood that
  21. Ugh, I really didn’t want Loreen to win 😑
