A bit of a shocking retirement from Meta Hrovat today. I thought she was still on her way of reaching her full potential but I guess she just doesn’t have the drive anymore.

Happy for McGrath, but yet another completely random result. I’ve never seen a season completely full of unexpected winners. At least Strolz looks like he’s here to stay and Norwegian BFFs are both vastly talented and were going to the top sooner rather than later anyway.
I wonder what the lowest amount of points for winning a slalom globe is, considering we had 9 races now and Kristoffersen leads by 48 points at “measly” 371.

Okay-ish podium, would have preferred 1st and 2nd switched.
i expect a dumpster fire podium on men’s slalom though lol. Vinatzer and Noel started the season by far the fastest but had so many DNFs their confidence is so bruised. Jakobsen one of the best but can crash out at any point. And the best of previous seasons are nowhere to be found this season.

Quite impressive from Slokar to finish 5th in last Olympics and World Championships. But it still feels like she’s not completely there yet, due to her more average World Cup results. But wow, being +0.22 behind and only getting 5th must feel bad. Duerr as well as she lost it in the last 5 seconds. I wonder if she would have gotten a medal if she wasn’t 1st after the 1st run.

Looking forward, I hope Shiffrin doesn’t go for too much in Super G and risk any injury. But idk I feel like she’ll be desperate for a medal in order to please American media that basically put the majority of their gold medal hopes on her.

Really miss Samkova here. All favorites really disappointed, but if Jacobellis could win the gold medal 16 years after that blunder, that would be an incredible story. Can’t believe she didn’t even get a single medal after that… crashed in the SFs of 2010, 2014 and ended up 4th in 2018 despite leading for a while.
-
Well done Petra, I didn’t doubt she could get a medal even for a second, but great to see her getting gold as well. Great reactions and very world-cup like podium which is always nice.
No fluke medalists this year really so far (this will change during men’s combined cause that start list is woeful). I guess most surprising would be RCS (great season last year before injury tho), Brignone (god awful GS season until very recently) and Clarey (but he always has a random 2nd or 3rd place every 10 races).

not on this snow. this is exactly the same what happened in PyeongChang. Exactly the same, she just can not find her rhythm on this snow.
Oh please what is this moping around? She had two big mistakes in the 1st run, but she’s still clearly in contention for the medal here and a gold medal favorite in slalom.

3. Tessa Worley - 15
4. Viktoria Rebensburg, Tina Maze, Mikaela Shiffrin, Lise-Marie Morerod, Anita Wachter - 14
9. Sonja Nef, Deborah Compagnioni - 13

This is why slalom is the best discipline, where else will you find a Spaniard, 2 Bulgarians, a Japanese and a Belgian infront of the best Austrian in an alpine skiing race. Great to see more countries but also what a disaster for Austria today.
Ah and this Clement moment is why slalom frustrates me! So close to yet another win

Man, Vinatzer just blew it so hard. Good to see Jakobsen finally get it together in both runs for a podium.
Glad for Noel, hopefully finally takes the globe this year.

The fact is IOC’s reputation has been damaged, acting as CCTV’s puppet because they told everyone Peng is okay, so there wasn’t any need for those fake interviews/statements they usually make people do.

this article perfectly summarized what IOC has gotten a indirect culprit in. -

Because the athletes are tomorrow already traveling to Lake Louise. First DH Training should be already on Tuesday.
80% of GS skiers won’t be in Lake Louise and the few that will could just skip one of the three trainings… I mean, sure not the easiest schedule wise, but sucks for all those GS girls that came all the way to the US for one race and saw it cancelled.

Good podium, but surprised that Duerr’s podiums in Levi turn out not to be an anomaly. The top7 for slalom seem so convincing with taking the high places that I wonder which skier will manage to do a Gallhuber in Beijing and get a medal.
Not sure why they can’t do the GS in Killington tomorrow, they should’ve just postponed it on Saturday, but they clearly wanted to smash their head through the wall in those disastrous conditions.

Having no access to social media is not disappearance no matter that modern culture is all about social presence these days.
But it seems pretty obvious that what they’re doing is taking away her access to the outside world and telling her that she has no support, so she makes a public apology that she lied and denying her access for her colleagues to contact her. This isn’t just a simple social media hiatus like some have implied, it’s a violation of human rights.
-
I don’t think the outrage comes from the allegations. She does mention rape, which Western media put as the centerpiece, but mostly people are concerned how quickly all mention of it has been scrubbed from Weibo and she hasn’t been heard of since nor has anybody of her colleagues been able to reach her.
Clearly by the email that surfaced yesterday she’s not in control of her social media or devices right now, which is even more worrying.

Very early reports that KV Lie has a broken tibia & fibula. Potential knee injury as well.
Schneeberger suffered a broken leg which you could see during live broadcast already.
Her leg looked absolutely twisted. It reminded me too much of Lanzinger, hopefully it’s nowhere near as severe.

Ah well, shame for those 0.02, but she looked too passive on the 2nd run today, like she has looked often in GS this season.
Hopefully she continues the slalom trend though
And shame for Alice, 4th today, but what a step up from the races in WC this season, hope that means she’s back to form!
Lara looked hopeless in GS for last couple of years (and not just GS), so it’s great she’s getting things back on track considering what a talent she is.

Not even Livio Magoni's gate pattern could help Vlhova here.
Does anyone have more DNFs on the tour than Meta Hrovat?
Only Alex Tilley probably

Apparently Meta Hrovat crashed with her head onto a larger rock while skiing with a group near her hometown.
She was airlifted to the hospital and is badly injured but her life is not in danger.
