Have a question about the qualification system. It says the UCI World Ranking by Nation will be through October 22nd, 2018 - October 27th, 2019. Do you know if they will reset the nation rankings on October 22nd or will they just use what they have now for the 2018 Season. Not sure if that makes any sense but thanks.

Week in Summer #13 - United States July 15th - July 22nd NOTE: I decided to not include Athletics solely because of the fact their are so many event different events to include. I'll start to include them once I get a system down to shorten it. Someone amazing updated the 2020 Olympic Wikipedia page therefore it makes my spreadsheet building 100x easier. See you next week! Archery Archery World Cup - Stage 4 Berlin, Germany | July 16th - July 22nd Last week was the final stage of the Archery World Cup and a very intense one as it was the final tournament to see who would be competing in the Archery World Cup Final in Samsun (Sept. 29th - 30th) Recurve Men Qualification With the pressure on, Brady Ellison needs to get at least in the quarter finals to qualify on points for the World Cup Final. But, sadly he had the worst qualification round of all four stages ending the round 16th. In previous stages he placed (3rd, 4th, 3rd) after qualification. This was Alex Bourdage first Archery World Cup and surprisingly he performed better in Qualification than Jack and Matthew. At only 19 or 20 years old he did great! Jack Williams had a surprising qualification score after coming out of qualification in 9th place in Stage 3 in Salt Lake City. Like Brady, Matthew had his worst qualification of the World Cup ending up in 90th. Overall a disappointing qualification for 3 of the 4 men. Recurve Women Qualification Just like in Salt Lake City, Khatuna Lorig had a great qualification round and has been improving her qualification score almost every stage of the World Cup (13th in Salt Lake City)! Despite the 21st ranking Mackenzie Brown didn't necessarily do terrible compared to the first two stages of the World Cup Mackenzie has been improving, sadly she was not able to match her 5th ranking from Salt Lake City but nonetheless she did pretty good! Erin Mickelberry had an alright qualification aswell she was able to get 50th which is around her average qualification score for this years World Cup. Amy Jung was able to get 83rd which was a bit better then she did in Antalya. At only 17 years old I'm excited to see where Amy will go but we won't be bringing her to the Pan American Championship in August. Jack Williams - Bracket Round With a 48th ranking after the qualification round Jack was able to get put against Jonathan Andersson (65) of Sweden. Jack had a great showing being able to beat him 6-2! In the Second Round Jack faced off against Thomas Chirault (17) from France. In a very close match Jack upset him 6-5 bringing him to the Third Round where sadly he had to go against Brady Ellison, normally I'm all for the rookie/underdog story but we needed Brady to win and he did so Jack lost 2-6 to Brady Ellison (16). The 18 year old had a great showing and I'm sure he will do great at the Pan American Championship. Jack ended Stage 4 in 17th place which tied it for his 2nd best finish in the Archery World Cup. This also moved his World Ranking up from 41 --> 35! Brady Ellison - Bracket Round Because of the disappointing qualification round from Brady Ellison he was not able to obtain a bye round so in the First Round he played against Ben Adriaensen (97) and beat him with a score of 6-2. In the Second Round Brady got more comfortable and beat Ibrahim Ethem Gulacar (64) from Turkey 7-1. Sadly in the Third Round Brady had to play teammate Jack Williams and he needed this victory in order to have an attempt to qualify for the World Cup Finals. Brady did indeed end up beating Jack 6-2. In the Fourth Round, Brady had to go against the 1st ranked player Mete Gazoz from Turkey and sadly lost to him 0-6. Although not all bad news because Brady Ellison was able to qualify for the World Cup Finals on points in 6th place! Hopefully he can get himself back together and have a great showing in Samsun. Matthew Requa - Bracket Round Unlike his 9th place finish in Salt Lake City, Matthew lost in the First Round against Miguel Alvarino Garcia (23) of Spain 4-6. Matthew will be heading to the Pan American Championship with our Men's team so I'm hoping he can really start to focus because we will need him to be on his best showing! With this loss it moved his World Ranking down to 41st. Alex Bourdage - Bracket Round It's surprise after surprise from Alex Bourdage. In the First Round he played against Kyraya Tomoaki (66) from Japan and beat him 7-1 which was surprising as Kuraya is ranked 107th in the World Ranking. In the Second Round Alex played a close game but ended up falling to Ryan Tyack (18) 4-6. Alex's world ranking is at 304th but I'm certain as he competes more and more he will quickly move up the rankings! Khatuna Lorig - Bracket Round With the 16th ranking after qualification Khatuna was able to get a 1st round bye, so in the Second Round she faced off against Nerea Lopez Sanchis (64) from Spain. Khatuna failed to show her true skill and got upset by Nerea 2-6. Even though it seems like a bad loss for Khatuna it hasn't been her worst performance in the World Cup previously in Antalya and Shanghai she placed 57th. The 33rd place finish is just a minor setback and I'm sure she will continue to improve over the next months. Mackenzie Brown - Bracket Round Our best female archer didn't do terrible in Berlin. Mackenzie got a 1st round bye and was able to beat Sarah Bettles (44) from Great Britain 7-3 moving Mackenzie to the Third Round where she played against Lei Chien-Ying (12) from Chinese Taipei. Sadly Mackenzie lost this match-up 2-6. This loss moved her World Ranking down to 14th but I know she will bring her A-game to the Pan American Championship in August. Amy Jung - Bracket Round The 17-year old fared well against Michelle Kroppen (30) from Germany loosing 4-6 in the First Round of competition. Amy's World Ranking is currently at 264th but as time progresses I'm sure she will be one to keep an eye on. Erin Mickelberry - Bracket Round Erin Mickelberry went into the First Round with a ranking of 50th and got matched against Sietske Visser (63) and beat her 6-2! In the Second Round she lost against Zhang Xinyan (15) from China 2-6. Erin's World Ranking still manged to go up despite the Second Round loss now moving up to 117th place. Recurve Men Team The USA Men started the Bracket Round with a 7th seed which meant a First Round bye which I'm sure helped them so they were able to relax before going against Germany (10) and beating them 6-0! In a very very close Quarterfinal match we lost to Kazakhstand (2) 4-5. This was our Men's team best performance in all four stages of the World Cup ending in 5th place! Recurve Women Team The USA Women started the Bracket Round with an 8th seed which also meant a First Round bye. Although in the Second Round we lost a close game against India (9) 4-5. This tied for our worst finish in the World Cup Stages with 9th place. Recurve Mixed Team Instead of the Gold Medal duo of Mackenzie Brown + Brady Ellison Mixed Team we decided to run with Khatuna Lorig + Brady Ellison Mixed Team like we did in Shanghai. It didn't go great but it didn't go terribly. We started with a 9th seed and had to play against Sweden (24) and we beat them 5-1. But in the Second Round we lost to Japan (8) 4-5 in a very tight match-up. Badminton Singapore Open 2018 Singapore | July 15th - July 22nd Women's Singles - Qualification Jennie Gai competed in the Singapore Open last week but because of her ranking she first had to compete in the Qualification Round and she was able to win her match 2-1 which moved her onto the real bracket round. Jennie Gai - Women's Singles Possibly the hardest match so far of the 17 year-old's career so far was going against Yulia who is ranked 76th in the world. Sadly Jennie lost to her but was still able to win a set. Jennie's world ranking is 125th in Women's Singles Beiwen Zhang - Women's Singles A very disappointing First Round loss for Beiwen Zhang though it actually moved her ranking up back up to 11th in World Ranking and 8th in World Tour Ranking. Beiwen has more competitions coming up soon so I'm hoping this loss won't affect her too badly. Men's Doubles Another tournament for Ryan and Phillip Chew but sadly another loss. I'm hoping in the upcoming tournaments they can start winning or at least taking a set. Women's Doubles Just like the Chew brothers, Ariel and Sydney Lee lost first round but the sister's lost even worse 3-21, 2-21. Even with the loss they are still not going down in rankings. Fencing 2018 Fencing Championships Wuxi, China | July 19th - Ongoing Men's Individual Sabre - Section 3 Currently we have the #1 Ranked Sabre Men Fencer in the World, Eli Dershwitz. In the Round of 64 he got matched against Dmytro of Ukraine and beat him 15-4. In the Round of 32 Eli faced against Yan from China and beat Yan 15-12 in a bit of a closer match. In a very close and intese match in the Round of 16 it was Eli vs Benedikt from Germany but Eli won 15-14. In the Quarter finals Eli faced against Aron and beat him 15-11 moving Eli to the Finals Bracket. Men's Individual Sabre - Section 4 Geoffrey Loss is currently ranked 87th in the world but sadly lost in the Round of 64 to Kim Jun-ho. Daryl Homer is ranked 15th in the world and had a better performance. In the Round of 64 he beat Kostiantyn from Israel 15-7. In the Round of 32 he beat Csanad 15-8. But in the Round of 16 he sadly lost to Fares 13-15. Men's Individual Sabre - Finals Back to Eli he faced off against Kim Jun-ho in the Semifinals beating him 15-14 in a close match. In the Finals Eli went against Kim Jung-hwan who is ranked 3rd in the world. Eli sadly lost the match 11-15 giving Eli the Silver Medal. Women's Individual Epee - Section 1 Katharine Holmes is ranked 33rd in the World and in the Round of 64 she beat Ayaka 14-9 moving Katharine to the Round of 32 where she also beat Lee Hye-in 15-8. In the Round of 16 Katharine Holmes lost against Mara from Italy 9-15. Women's Individual Epee - Section 2 Kelley Hurley is ranked 14th in the world and in the Round of 64 she beat Beate 15-8. In the Round of 32 she lost to Maria 12-13 in a close match. Women's Individual Epee - Section 3 Assuming the Hurley's are related Kelley's sister Courtney who is our best ranked female went against Dora from Spain in the Round of 64 and beat her 15-12. In the Round of 32 Courtney beat Aleksandra 15-14 in a very close match. In the Round of 16 she beat Tatyana from Russia 9-8. Then in the Quarterfinals she beat Caroline 15-10. Women's Individual Epee - Finals In the Semifinals Courtney lost against Ana Maria Branza 13-14, and Courtney ended with a bronze medal! Field Hockey 2018 Women's Field Hockey World Cup England | July 21st - Ongoing On July 21st we had our first match for the 2018 Women's Field Hockey World Cup. We played against Ireland but sadly lost to them 1-3. Our next matches are on July 25th and 29th against England and India. We need ties or wins against them to hopefully not be eliminated. Rugby Sevens 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens - Men's Tournament AT&T Park, California | July 20th - July 21st Championship Cup We started the tournament as a 5th seed and were matched up against Wales (12) in the Round of 16. We beat wales with a score of 35-0. Moving onto the Quarter-Finals we got placed against England (4) and tied the game 19-19 after full time but in extra time we lost to them 24-19. 5th Place Because of the loss in the Quarter-Finals we got brought down to the 5th place Bracket. In the Semi-Finals we got matched against Scotland (8) and beat them 28-0 moving us to the 5th Place Final. In the Final we met Argentina (7) but lost to them 7-33 which means we ended the tournament in 6th place a place behind our seed. We hopefully meet Argentina again in the 2019 Pan American Games. This 6th place finish is the best finish the United States Men's National Rugby team has every achieved in the Rugby World Cup Sevens! Our previous best position was 13th place in 2013, so woohoo for 6th! 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens - Women's Tournament AT&T Park, California | July 20th - July 21st Championship Cup We started the tournament with a 5th seed which means in the Round of 16 we got placed against China (12) where we beat them 38-7 which allowed us to advance to the Quarter-finals where we faced Russia (4) and upset them 33-17. In the Semi-finals we lost to New Zealand (1) in a close match of 21-26. Now in the Bronze Medal Match we went against Australia (2) and sadly lost to them 14-24. Leaving us with a 4th place finish in the tournament. Despite going farther than our seed we didn't match our previous 3rd place results of the previous 2 Women's Rugby World Cup Sevens Tournaments.

They have these same type of boats where I live and they have lots of stuff blocking the windows (plastic, metal bars) and such so I'd imagine it's difficult for a super young or super old person to escape out of the boat if it flips over.

Week in Summer #12 - United States July 8th - July 15th NOTE: What a week for United States Olympic Sports! I know I'm missing some stuff but this took me a very long time (mainly importing the photos). Still kicking away at my spreadsheet and trying to understand Qualification Systems etc. Woohoo for our win in Volleyball and Athletics this week! Archery No archery events last week, but the Archery World Cup - Stage 4 | Berlin goes through July 16th to July 22nd. The US Recurve Men include Brady Ellison, Matthew Requa, Jack Williams, Alex Bourdage. The US Recurve Women include Mackenzie Brown, Amy Jung, Erin Mickelberry, Khatuna Lorig. According to the World Archery website Brady Ellison is not yet safe for Samsun (World Cup Final) and will likely need a top eight finish in Berlin to make his ninth consecutive World Cup Final. Athletics Athletics World Cup The inaugural Athletics World Cup was held in London this past week and USA was able to come out in 1st place with 2019 points and winning $450,000! Eight nations competed which were China, France, Germany, Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Jamaica, Poland, South Africa, and United States. 100 Meters - Men Kendal Williams was only 0.03 away from taking home the gold but nonetheless great effort by him! 100 Meters - Women Ashley Henderson was able to beat Olympic Champion Elaine Thompson in a very close race! 200 Meters - Men Ameer Webb was able to get 3rd place in the Men's 200 Meters 200 Meters - Women Jenna Prandini snatched a 2nd place in the Women's 200 Meters! 400 Meters - Men Great race for Paul Dedewo finishing in 1st place! 400 Meters - Women Courtney Okolo finished in 5th place 800 Meters - Men Clayton Murphy did a great job getting 1st place in the Men's 800 Meters! 800 Meters - Women Giving us more points Raevyn Rogers was able to get 1st place! 1500 Meters - Men Not his best race but Izaic Yorks was still able to finish in 4th place! 1500 Meters - Women Rachel Schneider was able to get us a silver and she ran her Season Best! 110 Meter Hurdles - Men Devon Allen gave us a bronze and got 3rd place with a time of 13.36! 100 Meter Hurdles - Women Queen Harrison gave us another bronze with a time of 12.99 400 Meter Hurdles - Men Kenny Selmon gave us GOLD and won the 400 Meter Hurdles! 400 Meter Hurdles - Women Kymber Payne didn't have the best race but stayed close with 3rd and 4th place but ended up getting 5th. High Jump - Men Jeron Robinson won the high jump with a 2.30! High Jump - Women Vashti Cunningham was able to win the high jump with a gold! Pole Vault - Men Great win by Sam Kendricks with a score of 5.83! Pole Vault - Women Lot's of PB and SB for the women but Katie Nageotte was able to pick up silver! Long Jump - Men Zack Bazile was able to jump a 8.30 giving him the silver medal! Long Jump - Women Quanesha Burks was able to jump her was to 2nd with a 6.48! Triple Jump - Men Donald Scott triple jumped his way to silver with 16.73! Triple Jump - Women Keturah Orji was able to pick up 14.60 moving her to 2nd place! Shot Put - Men Nice job Darrell Hill getting 2nd place! Shot Put - Women Maggie Ewen ended up getting bronze with a score of 18.23! Discus Throw - Men Reggie Jager got 5th place in the Discus Throw Discus Throw - Women Discus Throw - Women Valarie Allman ended up getting 3rd place! 4x100 and 4x400 - Men & Women We ended up getting gold in both of these events for our Women and our Men! Medal Table Badminton Toyota Thailand Open 2018 Women's Singles Beiwen Zhang got matched up against Ying Li Chiang in the 1st round and beat her 2-0 (21-15, 21-14). In the 2nd round she got matched up against Dinar Dyah Ayustine and beat her 2-1. In the Quarterfinals she faced Akane Yamaguchi and beat her 2-1! Sadly in the Semi Finals Beiwen lost to Nozomi Okurhara 0-2. This didn't affect her World Ranking (12th) but did affect her World Tour Ranking moving her down 1 spot to 11th place. Women's Doubles Ariel Lee and Sydney Lee got beat first round pretty badly, but their ranking has been on a steady incline in both the World Ranking and World Tour Ranking (50th WR) (28th WTR) Men's Doubles Just like Ariel and Sydney, Phillip and Ryan Chew got beat 1st round against Xuanui and Ren but they did better than Ariel and Sydney. Sadly this brough them down 1 rating in both the World Ranking and World Tour Ranking as they are now rank 51st for both. Diving FINA Diving Grand Prix 2018 #3 Bolzano (ITA) 3m Synchronized - Men Greg Duncan and Grayson Campbell were able to pull out a 3rd place bronze for us in the Grand Prix! 3m Springboard - Women Brooke Schultz was able to get 3rd place meanwhile Alison Gibson placed 6th. 10m Platform - Men Jacob Cornish got a silver in the Grand Prix! 10m Synchronized - Women Nice job Olivia and Katrina on getting the bronze for us in the Grand Prix stage 3! Tennis 2018 Wimbledon Championships Women's Singles - Serena Williams In Section 7 Serena was able to get past A Rus, V Tomova, K Mladenovic, and E Rodina! In the Finals bracket Serena made her way past Camila Giorgi and Julia Gorges before falling to Angelique Kerber in the Finals Volleyball 2018 Women's Pan-American Volleyball Cup We started off strong with a 3-1 win over Trinidad and Tobago. But our next match didn't go over so smoothly as we lost to Cuba 2-3 which put us in a tough spot as we needed a win over Puerto Rico to get back our 1st place. We ended up beating Puerto Rico 3-0 allowing us to get to 1st place in the group! In the Quarterfinals we beat Colombia 3-0 which now allowed us to qualify for the Pan American Games! In the Semifinals we faced a bit of a harder match up against Canada but beat them 3-1. Finally in the Final game we beat the Dominican Republic 3-2! This was our 6th Pan American Cup win and we were able to defend our previous Gold in 2017! Let's hope 2019 goes smoothly aswell!

Anyone know how Archers qualify for the World Cup Final? I know that the winners of each of the stages qualify, with a minimum of three further places being awarded on points accrued and one place reserved for the host country. I'm just not sure what the max amount of athletes for each category would be (ex. Recurve Men)

Week in Summer #11 - United States July 1st - July 8th NOTE: Still pumping away on my spreadsheet so I can include more sports in these posts and more detail. Everyday I find new information to add and such. Some of the qualification documents are a bit confusing to understand but I'm trying to get through it! See you next week! Archery No Archery news last week, the 4th stage of the Archery World Cup is July 16th - 22nd in Berlin, Germany! Badminton Blibli Indonesia Open 2018 Women's Singles Beiwen Zhang sadly got upset first round against Aya Ohori. This is Beiwen's first ever loss to Aya as the past 3 times they have met Beiwen has come out victorious. This loss only dropped her World Tour Ranking from 3rd to 9th. Women's Doubles Ariel and Sydney Lee got badly beaten by Jongkolphan and Rawinda. This result is not very surprising though as the Thailand women are ranked 6th in the world for Women's Doubles Basketball Coaches Announced for USA Basketball Men's National Team Minicamp in Las Vegas on July 25th - 27th. Canoeing 2018 ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup - Stage 3 Augsburg, Germany C1 Men - Heats Sadly none of the US Men made it out of the Heat Stage K1 Men - Heats M. Smolen was the only Man to make it out of the K1 Men Heat Stage! K1 Men - Semis Sadly Smolen was not able to make it to the Finals C1 Women - Heats Rollins was not able to make it out of the Heat Stage K1 Women - Heats Nee was also not able to make it out of the Heat Stage Cycling No cycling last week (will add Tour de France when it finishes and it will be at the corresponding Week in Summer) Volleyball 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men's Nations League Final Round Group Stage We were able to get ranked 2nd after beating Poland 3-0 but loosing to Russia 0-3. Final Four In the Semifinals we got matched against France where we lost a close match 2-3. In the 3rd place match we beat Brazil 3-0! This bronze medal sets us up well going into the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship later this year!

4 of the boys trapped in the Thailand cave have been rescued! Hopefully everyone involved will make it out safely!

I'm an idiot. I was assuming the number of quota places per gender on the left 5 (5 teams) meant that only 5 team could qualify + host country. This is my first year looking at qualification documents and some of them are very confusing for me. Thanks
