Dunno about that. Our own athletics commentators who suddenly find themselves doing the Olympic bobsleigh have certainly matched that standard.
And to think Martin Haven (and John Morgan), the gods of bobsleigh commentary, are native English speakers...throw them a bag of money and let's go.

he had to have been sarcastic, there's no way someones this dumb
Definitely not sarcastic, but honestly I also don't think it's a matter of being dumb
My guess is that the main athletics commentator, who is sick, was supposed to be replaced by someone who is kind of the default backup commentator...but he also wasn't available, so the guy doing it today is someone who as far as I know literally only does commentary for football usually.
With that in mind, he actually did a pretty good job overall, just that Perkovic/Elkasevic mistake was a bit unfortunate

Truly embarrassing race in the 110hs, clearly they all have a problem with fatigue and disposal of preparation
What was embarrassing about the race? The times were definitely fine. Women's 200m and men's high jump, those were probably the lowest-level events of the day I'd say

"In Croatia, the women are good with the discus, for example this Sandra Elkasevic. No Sandra Perkovic this time in Xiamen."
I hope the main Dutch athletics commentator gets well soon, because the replacement has a bit to learn, let's say

Made the screenshot without looking, because I didn't get to the discus yet, but I hope my blind screenshot caught the full result for you

yeah, noticed that also but i assumed the rest of you were watching live somewhere so i thought this was a personal problem
I am definitely watching (although not entirely live, 20 minutes behind because I forgot ), but it'd be good to have the results to check and so on. Omega isn't updating neither.

Edit: whoah, there's life in the DL website!

Any idea what time the programme will air tomorrow?
I see nothing besides regular sports programming focusing on football..

If someone could give the Diamond League server a reboot so the site with results loads, that'd be great

Beijing Half Marathon results from last weekend will not stand.
Well that is some nonsense.

Sara Benfares was on quite a cocktail

I do genuinely hope she gets her life in order though, assuming the bone cancer diagnosis is real. She's still young enough to have a normal life outside of sports, so hopefully she gets better medically speaking, puts this behind her and starts life as a regular working person

attack in iran
Seems like a relatively small strike on some military base, which at least to the outside world Iran seems to be more or less denying in order to not 'have' to hit back. In the words of Iran at the UN after they attacked last weekend: the matter should now be deemed concluded, one would imagine (and hope, nobody needs this to keep going and going).

Because it is much further north, Brisbane’s weather during winter is much better, warmer and drier than either Sydney or Melbourne in July and August where it is wet, miserable and cold.
Sydney 2000 was given special one-off approval to hold those Games in September because of Sydney’s poor winter weather in July and August.
Logical, given the world's average preferences, but too bad. A Sydney or Melbourne Olympics might be my best chance ever for comfortable weather at a Summer Olympics, a rather rare opportunity

The IOC only allows the Games to be hosted in the July/August Hosting window.
Brisbane will be in winter when it hosts in July 2032 but their winter is a lot milder and drier than Sydney or Melbourne then when it is cold, wet and miserable.
So, Sydney, Melbourne and all southern Australian cities have zero chance of hosting an Olympics in the future.
Too bad, July and August kind of feel like the best times of year to visit both Sydney and Melbourne without worrying too much about melting away, and quite nice average temperatures

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Climate_of_Melbourne#Climate_statistics
Brisbane at least seems to be not much worse, although June/July would have been slightly better...but like you said, IOC won't allow that

Bernd Hölzenbein, famous for his dive that gave West Germany a free penalty in the 1974 World Cup final, has died. He played in the US in the final years of his career, but said (long) career consisted mostly of many highly impressive years at Eintracht Frankfurt.
German football players are leaving this world fast the past few months..

I meant that he said that it was a mistake for HIM himself,to never chase winds, and he ended up without a world record. He basically gave Mykolas the green light to do this,he's very proud of him
Right, that makes a lot more sense

Except Alekna's father who never cared to do it,admits that was a mistake and told Mykolas not to repeat the mistake.
Wow, I'd expect a prouder reaction from dad

Yeah, the lack of actual grand stands makes this "stadium" look quite unique. I wonder if it suddenly becomes the new go-to-place for throwers
Haven't fields like these been the go-to-place for throwers looking for limits and records for years already?

Well, I did some research and actually we can count out Ulyanova and Mollenhauer - first is actually Azerbaijani, but was (shockingly) naturalized by Russia and then came back to homeland, and Mollenhauer moved to the Azerbaijan at the age of 5, so she's not naturalized American
Thanks, and interesting, especially Mollenhauer having basically grown up there, that's Azerbaijani enough I'd say

But the fourth one is not Azerbaijani too
Azerbaijani-Russian, apparently, but it does look like she was born in Baku?
