  1. He informed he would not go to Tokyo and then he kind of disappeared. He probably has retired with little fanfarre.
  2. Not so unlucky. She has a World medal and an European title. Given her execution, this is a lot more than I expected from her.
  3. What a beautiful podium on the pommel horse. I'm almost in tears. So, so deserved and fair!
  4. For once I'll not complain about Great Britain being overscored. It was a fair result. Now, silver and bronze are totally wrong. Hashimoto was super overscored here and Doi should be ashamed to be gifted a medal. Some of his pirouettes were clearly incomplete. Bartolini and Gischard were much more deserving.
  5. Hashimoto vs Boheng is the best rivalry that could have happened in men's all-around. Uchimura was basically ahead of everyone and even when he had problems, the judges would turn a blind eye. I guess we all remember when Verniaiev was robbed of a gold medal in Rio, or when Japan was gifted an undeserved team silver medal in London. This time, however, the judges are not eating up Hashimoto, and Boheng has the talent and the mental strength to challenge him. The only problem for me (and this has nothing to do with the quality of his gymnastics, just a pet peeve of mine) is that Hashimoto, pretty much like Uchimura, is as charismatic as a cucumber.
  6. At the halfway mark, the difference between the third place and twelfth place is only 0.799. Currently, Jake Jarman sits in 12th. I have a feeling I know where this will end.
  7. Thank you! She lost at least 0.6 in execution with that mistake on bars, and she also had a nervous beginning on beam and lost two connections (lower difficulty) but when she realized she messed up, she tried a new connection she has never done before (and nailed it). At that point I knew she would be World Champion. Very few gymnasts have shown this level of quick thinking on beam. In recent years, only Mustafina and Sanne Wevers that I can recall from the top of my head.
  8. Of course I'm super happy about Andrade, but I just can't stomach Great Britain being overscored anymore. I'll just leave this here.
  9. A deep squat is a 0.5 deduction. Underrotation = difficulty devalued. Touching the hands on the floor is a 1.0 deduction. I get it that basically everybody performed horribly except for China, and that silver and bronze medals would be awarded no matter how poorly countries performed. But between Italy and Great Britain, I really don't know which one got more overscored today. Of course, the gymnasts have nothing to do with it. A medal is a medal, so more power to them. But if one cares about the performances rather than national flags, it's sad to see FIG playing favorites here.
  10. 13.833 for Jake Jarman's vault both underrotated and counting a fall. Sour grapes? I guess that there's something rotten somewhere in FIG's headquarters. A lesson for the future: any country that wants to automatically qualify teams for the Olympics no matter what happens should just volunteer to host the World Championships.
  11. Italy lost in the end, and Great Britain made full use of the judges' gifts. A bronze medal with scores in the range of 10, 12 and 12 on the pommel horse. Japan also had a really bad day. I cannot even say I'm excited after watching this. I feel sad, really. Another disappointing team final.
  12. This is not their fault. Our focus has always been on specific events. So to say, we do not have a competitive men's team, and I don't really think this is our focus. The guys qualified for the event finals in the events they were "supposed" to qualify from the start: Caio on vault and Nory on the high bar. Our chances of a team medal have always been null, and to be honest I never thought they would break the top 16, let alone qualify in 7th here.
  13. LOL, 13.733 for Italy on floor with a very simple routine with some major mistakes. I swear I'm not picking on the Italians, but they are getting much bigger scores than their routines deserve. Great Britain too, but the home court effect surely plays a part here. It's nearly impossible for them after the pommels rotation, but the judges are making sure that they overscore every single routine from the British guys all the same.
  14. 14.3 for Macchini with the worst execution I've seen in a long, long time. Almost all of his pirouettes deserved 0.5 in deductions AND no credit for difficulty. Really, the judges are going to throw this medal on Italy's lap. What a shame.
  15. I agree that most people struggled, but we cannot just let this slide. This is the most important competition in this sport this year. Not even in the humblest World Challenge Cup stage I've heard about such a dangerous thing. The competition should have been suspended once the leak was discovered. At the very least, gymnasts should have been allowed to perform on beam again. It was not a fair competition to all gymnasts, and there were Olympic berths at stake. In no way I'm asking for medals to be redistributed and Olympic berths to be taken away from the gymnasts and nations who have qualified. But, seriously, we cannot just say "oops" and keep the ball rolling as if nothing happened.
  16. There was water dripping ON THE BALANCE BEAM. Of course, many gymnasts had to count a fall in their routines. I'm not contesting the results, but something has to be done about it. The organization cannot just get away with this kind of thing.
  17. No chance at all. I strongly believe she will also not compete on floor.
  18. Canada will get bronze. This is UNREAL! Massive achievement! Congratulations to my fellow Canadians here!
  19. I honestly thought Brazil would struggle to reach top 16, so this seventh place is OUTSTANDING.
  20. Second and third reserves. Bummer. Egypt deserved better. But it was a great team performance!
  21. Big surprises today! not making team finals is a HUGE upset. Some would even say they could have gotten a medal! And a gymnast from made it to the PH final! AMAZING!!!
  22. I'd say Brazil would easily win a medal, but with Flávia Saraiva probably injured, we have no chance of a medal now. Brazil had lots of mistakes on beam and a watered-down bars routine from Flávia. We can realistically score around 166 on a great day. But we have no chance if Flávia is hurt.
