I am a bit concerned for . They have a women's quota, but the only athlete (Sara Ponya) doesn't have enough FIS points to be eligible. She needs 300 and has 378. Ponya is competing in biathlon right now and hasn't done any cross country races since the World Championships.
Does the federation know that Ponya isn't eligible yet? I can't imagine she wasn't interested in going to the Olympics?

two chances for olympics!
This reminds me of when I was watching a YouTube stream of the 2018 qualifying and someone commented in the live chat that they had a crush on "Lukáš Klimax"

@dcro You are good with rules, help us out please
This quite clearly states that an athlete who does NOT have under 100 distance points and also does NOT have under 300 sprint points, can not complete in the individual sprint, correct?
I agree with that conclusion. So that means Mirlene Picin would not be eligible for the Sprint? What would happen if Picin has a better FIS points average, but only Bruna can start in two events?

And that's a DNF for Bruna, sadly. She was overtaken in a downhill by someone (we believe Keidy Kaasiku of Estonia) who then immediately pulled up straight in front of her and braked before a turn for which Bruna wasn't going to brake. The result was sudden evasive action...and quite a fall, just nothing to do about it when someone makes a move like that. Hurt knee afterwards, so there was no point in going on for more than half of the race just to lose more time and potentially damage the knee.
Excellent result for Jaque meanwhile, with a good result for Mika as well.
Oh no Will she be in the mass start December 5th?

Lucerne's decision seems to be largely based on travel restrictions and the likes, which is just not in their hands at all.
Right, the criticism is more aimed at the government here. It's a very bad sign for the winter sports season in general.

Haha. It didn't come from HIV but it was able to mutate more because of the lack of immunity in people with HIV.

I don't think there have been any major postponements or even cancellations the past months, but the omicron variant is striking fear in the hearts of people who have to make decisions, so here we go again....
The variant actually appears to be less dangerous than existing ones, so not sure I understand the decision. Probably hysteria. https://www.reuters.com/world/africa/safrican-doctor-says-patients-with-omicron-variant-have-very-mild-symptoms-2021-11-28/

After Denmark, first ever participation at the Olympics also for woman hockey team
Congrats sestři
Thank you! I am so so happy for them. It always bothered me that the *most popular sport in the country* didn’t have a women’s team anyone cared about.
Now with the disastrous men’s team results at Karjala people are commenting at the players “you should take an example from the girls”.
I think we have a realistic chance at a bronze medal, but only if we win Group B and avoid Canada/USA in the quarterfinals.

Like which smaller nations? If they allow Norway B, Russia B and Sweden B to compete (duh) then these smaller nations would end up where they are now - without adding another event Norway can dominate The biggest competition is in individual sprints. Relays are basically a wash with the same 5-6 big nations always finishing in Top 5-6 places all the time.
I meant more if it’s at the World Championships where there’s one team per country. Kind of like in biathlon when the Czechs or USA do better in mixed relays because they only have 2 strong men/2 strong women.
But yeah if there are multiple teams per country starting then you’re right. Relays are rare enough during the World Cup anyway though.

Even more bizarre, was the BUL coach decision to pull the goalie for an extra player at score 77-0
Lol. I mean it kind of worked… also love the chant of “Bul-ga-ri-ya” as they’re falling around on the ice. And the heckling during Slovakia’s 2nd penalty shot.

As qualifying starts in a few days, here's my funniest ever women's ice hockey moment from the 2010 edition: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RypeKwtL4U&ab_channel=Stecak
@hckošice "Anna Dzurnakova, number 14, team Slovakie. Ten minutes for misconduct, plus match penalty"

I agree with this. I don't think it would be sensible to have a policy that said "you have to be vaccinated, unless you had COVID" because then you might have athletes who claim they had COVID to avoid getting the jab. Especially since this seems to be a thing.. Are some NFL players using fake vaccination cards?
You can take a test to see if you have antibodies from COVID. Really simple stuff. If you can verify vaccines you can verify natural immunity.

This list should give you a good idea of Team players. All the ones with a Chinese flag next to their name. To China’s credit all appear to have some form of Chinese heritage.
IIHF told me they weren’t relaxing the eligibility rules for China and eg. Jake Chelios has no Chinese flag next to his name so I assume no more naturalizations?
Question is if that means no waiver for eg. Ethan Werek which is a 4 year case as he once represented Canada

The same format as here will be in Beijing this time. 10 teams, 2 groups of 5. Group a with the top 5 seeded teams qualify for the QF, The first 3 teams from Group B will join them in the play-offs.
1A-3B, 2A-2B, 3A-1B, 4A-5A
So exactly the same situation can happen again just maybe this time CZE may face for example SUI or ROC in the quarterfinals
Yup that relies on SUI or ROC beating Finland and looking at their games this year I'd say that's very unlikely.

Seeing the Czechs totally dominating Finland in Women hockey is something absolutely insane, this Czech team has enormous future. Would not be surprised to see them in the top 4 fighting again against Finland for the bronze already in Beijing
Am very proud of them! In 2019 Finland was obviously better, shots were 43-17. This time the Czechs outshot Finland. The only obvious difference was you could tell Finland had experience with these kinds of games and we did not, too many errors and missed opportunities.
For the Olympics because of how the groups work, unless Russia or Switzerland surprises, we can only fight for a medal if we beat Canada/USA/Finland in the quarterfinals. Not likely we'll finish 4th unfortunately.

As I said, nothing is over in this sport until the last second, it took only 6 minutes in the 2nd period and BLR tied the score 2-2, there no way they will lose this one
I was too idealistic... This'll be interesting then. Assuming Austria doesn't rise from the dead, now is Olympic-qualified if they win tonight in regulation.

That should be correct. But if loses to and defeats what would be the deciding point? The score or the head2head game?
The head-to-head game. Assuming beats both and , if they have the same # of points Slovakia wins. If they all have 6 points because they all beat each other, then it's head-to-head score.

I saw that too. I sent her a message on her Instagram. Maybe I should email the federation instead?
