So are you Czechoslovak now? :P

I grew up there and I always thought I was eligible for Czech citizenship but due to a technicality I’m actually Slovak-American

Congrats !  and welcome to the Dark side :p

sincere condolences   That´s however a very brave decision which will imply a lot of sufferance, sorrowfull frustrations and neverending disappointements, but hey once in a loooong period time when there is a sporting success somewhere, the feeling of joy and pride is incalculable I promise you :d

Yeah, not many official info being published into the public, but, I guess her club did not want to release her as her Bishop Kearney is going to play the American Hockey Chamipionship in a couple of days...

Ah.. hopefully she will make her debut in Olympic Qualification and score 5 goals against Iceland

Yeah, their "free association" status with New Zealand will probably be a problem. Faroe Islands have struggled for recognition despite the support of nearby nations.

True, but nobody recognizes the Faroe Islands as independent. The UN (and USA) technically recognizes Niue.

Re. Free association isn’t Niue basically the same like Palau/Marshall Islands/Micronesia except with no separate citizenship?

  3. I think these are all very exciting choices. With cricket and football, it’s the first time the top 10 most viewed global sports will all be at the Olympics (in some form). It’ll be unprecedented. And removing breakdancing was the right call.

I can’t help but think about how confusing cricket will be to everyone in the Czech Republic 😋 I don’t even know the rules myself…

I don’t like that we are getting even more discount spin-off versions of popular sports (lacrosse 6s, flag football). Hurts the prestige of the Games IMO especially since they are barely developed at a high level

Never in my worst nightmares would have believe I will experience something like this...

this is a black day for Slovak sport

:SVK officially relegated to Division I B.

Poor Nela Lopušanová, imagine that, the girl who was not allowed to play this year yet by IIHF, will now lose 2 years before thinking about playing among the elite :( because yes, if Nela played here, we would be probably already celebrating the promotion into the top division... without Nela we are dropping to (without disrespect to other participants there) the absolute bottom...yes, this big is the impact of Lopušanová for our womens hockey, and she is barely 15 ! ...but, well, it happened, what happened, what can we do, next year "C" level. well, at least Nela will very likely explode her individual stats in this I.B. next year, prepare for some 8-10 points per match..

Women's WCh: Total (blamage) embarrassment is completed. Slovak women's hockey players were relegated to an even lower category

They wanted to advance to the Top Division, they were relegated to the 3rd tier. Slovakian women's hockey players failed completely at the World Champs

This also means in the ranking Slovakia will fall to 16th and so will likely have to play two rounds of Olympic qualification. Because I think the IIHF is holding spots for Russia and Belarus.

These are apparently the Round 1 groups for the men (confirmed in part here and here). The UAE, ranked 39th, is the highest seed in Round 1. The top 36 seeded teams get an automatic pass to Round 2 or higher. If you remove hosts Italy and Australia, who never enters, that works out to 36 teams above UAE, which must include Russia and Belarus.

  5. I don't think I'll be watching these Games any more. Not that they aren't fun, but it's obvious from the Opening Ceremony and today's short track that they're all about making a genocidal regime look good + pulling whatever strings possible to get them medals.

There are just better things to do with my time than supporting that. Especially since I'm a child of refugees from Communism, got to have some self-respect :) Bye for now.

That dude in COB's livestream talked so damn long!!! My parents and I were anxiously waiting for half an hour before we finally got to cross country! :d:hyper::hyper:

I mean, after yesterday we knew....but you never know until you KNOW :d

Of course they choose a picture of Bruna from the Engadin horror race ;)

Nah but seriously, congratulations @brunamoura! It was a long hard journey and you really deserve it. Hope the Olympics go safely (and you get some TV time).

If my calculations are correct (and luckily this season so far they generally are), that should result in these points:

    Jaque 103,36
    Bruna 186,36
    Mika 218,28
    Duda 241,58

Putting Bruna roughly 140 points ahead of Duda in the internal ranking now (I'll wait a little with that until the points are on the FIS website and I enter them in my table)!

Awesome! How did you get it sorted in the end? Did the federation come through?

Interesting, since earlier today 'we' were told that the races are likely to be cancelled....

Do you know if there is any way to contact this TSK Ravno Gorac/Ravnogorac? I tried an email last week, but got no answer.

By the way, she arrived in Zlatibor last night after a 19-hour trip, and this morning was told she wasn't registered for the races by the Brazilian federation. Apparently the 'coach' of the team had told the federation's 'registration guy' "No, nobody is going to Serbia :)". Luckily it seems she managed to solve this right on time with help of the (very friendly and very helpful!) Serbian organization, if she had arrived today it would have been too late...

It's now going to come down to this for the second ticket, basically:

    1) Bruna in Zlatibor vs Duda in Zakopane during the week

    2) Whoever vs whoever (not sure yet) in Ravna Gora (if not cancelled), Bad Mitterndorf (AUT) or, most likely, Zweisimmen-Sparenmoos (SUI) during the final weekend

Try Robert Kerstajn the technical delegate? I messaged you his contact info I found.

    Madison Chock / Evan Bates

    Kaitlin Hawayek / Jean-Luc Baker

    Madison Hubbell / Zachary Donohue

Brown is a fan favorite, but he's so overscored, and he has a low point ceiling. He shouldn't be on the Olympic team. It's simply a case of USFS giving the fans what they want.

These points show the situation fairly clearly. Bruna needs a distance race to improve her points, Duda needs one or two sprints to really make a change.

And you're really not going to get a 'team coach' favouring one athlete over the other any more obviously than the Brazilian one at this very moment. Take these two events:

Slavic Cup Zakopane, 11 and 12 January (sprint and distance)

Balkan Cup Zlatibor, 12 and 13 January (distance and sprint)

They are now actually planning to go to both of these events.....and only do the sprints! "But I need a distance race" is literally being answered with "but she needs sprints, so we're doing sprints"

It really can't get any more blatantly obvious. Both Zakopane and Zlatibor aren't entirely sure of actually happening yet neither, so deciding where to go on your own is a hard dilemma to say the least....(since you simply can't trust going with the team, they/the 'coach' are not above actively sabotaging you)

Working your ass off for four years and in the end it's going to come down to incredibly dirty games being played by someone who is supposed to be there for the entire team. It is truly beyond infuriating.

Can you stay in Zakopane for the distance race? Or if Zakopane is cancelled, will the team do distance in Zlatibor?

I get the feeling we will see a lot of COVID withdrawals during the Games.

On the plus side... it looks like Katie Tannenbaum :ISV is in qualification position? Because I doubt Sweden will send Leslie Stratton, and the French athlete isn't meeting her federation's internal criteria.
