  1. That's a big opportunity for Canada, wonder why he made the switch, he's more than capable in the United States.
  2. I mean, they could just make the tournaments, two-day affairs like they usually do in the World Series. Personally I really dislike having events before the opening ceremony. Football is fine because they have to and I can begrudgingly accept team sports like handball, but for something like archery which has no reason. The sport isn't even doing anything on Saturday so it isn't a scheduling issue.
  3. So we have archery, football, handball and rugby sevens starting before the opening ceremony
  4. Sad, but expected. He was already taking a more administrative role lately.
  5. The difference between Los Angeles and Atlanta was 12 years and to be fair they could have gotten the 2024 games if they didn't go for the deal proposed by the IOC and they didn't try a bid for 2020 due to politics. If the 2036 games are going to Europe and Spain isn't good enough that only leaves a small handful of possible nations: countries like etc. don't have the financial clout. Of the six nations, France is too soon and Russia is a non-starter for other reasons. I also don't think the IOC will want to remind people of the 1936 games so Germany is probably not a "preferred candidate" so Great Britain doesn't have much competition. Of course, the games could go to an Asian country in which case and will be the favourites or perhaps they want to go the Brazil route and awarded it to etc.
  6. Great Britain could put in a strong bid too. I'd like to see the Netherlands put in an attempt...
  7. I still think Pot 4 will be a bit more dangerous than Pot 3 thanks to Ecuador, Wales and Peru, though I guess you can be lucky and avoid all three...

  10. Yeah we can get a lot of crazy draw scenarios. One thing that crossed my mind is FIFA didn't explicitly say they will take the remaining balls into account when drawing. So we could have a situation where the last ball in Pot 4 is Ecuador, but Group H has Argentina. Obviously they will switch them with the Pot 4 team in Group G (assuming there isn't another South American team in it), but it will be funny to see them place a team in one group, but being forced to switch them because they didn't have the foresight to place them in the correct group.
  11. Not exactly, because we won't know the winners of the inter-continental match, the CONCACAF/OFC spot will be considered to be from both continents (same for AFC/CONMEBOL), but you can switch New Zealand for an African nation and you'll get the same result...
  12. Yeah, getting Canada in your group means you can't get Mexico/United States from Pot 2.
  13. Here's Canoe Slalom (in Spanish) Basically the 2023 Pan American Championships will decide the quotas.
  14. I think you are right, Iran needs MKD > POR, POL > SWE and EGY > SEN to make it to Pot 2. Perhaps they'll get lucky and get USA/Mexico. Going on the other extreme, we could get a Brazil/Germany/Iran/Wales group of death
  15. That's a bit of a shame, depending on how the next two days go, Iran could be in Pot 2 and depending on the draw, could have their best chance ever at reaching the elimination round.
  16. has a new flag (or are reusing their old flag). However, some sport federations are still using the old one (actually I'm not sure if any of them are using the current flag).
  17. Assuming they are going with their original plan, the World Cups won't offer any direct quotas. It'll be the 2022 and 2023 World Championships, the continental qualifiers and I think the World Rankings (not 100% on that one).
  18. I know basketball players are tall, but are 9m ceilings really too low? Ventilation is a bigger issue, but could be solved with renovations. Though it would probably be cheaper to find a new place...
  19. In men's football they can't compete at the Olympics due to the disagreements between the federations. Also if anything the four nations have less of a chance in qualifying due to diluting their players. It would be if the individual provinces of Algeria decide to qualify their own team. Sure there's more of them, but they would all be weaker.
  20. Canada lost 1-0 to Costa Rica so we'll have to wait until at least Sunday before we can qualify. This does make Canada's quest in getting to Pot 3 a bit harder, I think we needed to win all 3 of our matches to make it without needing results to go our way.
  21. I mean you are already pushing half with 13/32 teams. The issue is the European qualifying format benefits the stronger teams where weaker teams need to rely on the top teams having a bad day on the right day.
  22. I mean, China was also minimizing their international presence before Tokyo too, they were only competing in events which were either direct qualifiers or until they had enough points to guarantee a spot via rankings.
  23. East Asian countries take Covid very seriously, plus it doesn't help that there's a huge outbreak in China
